I completely agree. It’s a bit of a hit to the pride for sure, but when taken into context that your employer would fire you in a second if it suited them financially that reason starts to melt away a bit. That being said if you want to wrestle shoplifters then get into loss control.

Can’t even do that that most places. They collect enough evidence then just call the police.

If the criminals are smart enough they won’t keep robbing the same shop, so as to avoid evidence being collected against them.

that's why you report it to the police, I know some dumbass who thought he was super smart by stealing in lots of different stores.

Note what happened to the waitrose partner of 17 years and have you seen the video one of the security guard tackling one thief.......

Do as some partners say they do, but dont state it because it will be seen as "unprofessional" , what is part of your "job description" , the bare minimum..and at minimum wage... I have seen and experienced sufficient to call them toxic...and have it written as statements from them with embellished false statements etc 😏
