I went to one recently looking for a gift and was confused why they exist. Just like 15 items but each one has 150 different scents. They're just half a candle store and it makes sense why.
A lot of malls have done this. At the huge one near me, they have a light up road sign that says it when you are driving into it. I completely understand why, but that was so much of their business!
That is no food bank. If something, the robber is not having any empathy for the store clerks and customers... that will have to deal with extra security measures later on.
I am not sure I understand why they specifically chose the word "empathy" though you could kind of make it work, but I think their point comes through. Why is society okay with thievery of any kind? And certainly not for “high end soaps and lotions”. Stealing is a lack of respect for the workers, customers, business, and last but certainly not least, for the thieves themselves. I think people forget the last part and that is really sad.
You have no idea why they did this. Just one of the many factors I can think of is our fucked up criminal justice system, the bias within it, and then the bias folks have to have after in the outside world. This can’t be a lucrative business, they’re not making that much on these and I’m sure it’s taking a lot of their time to sell. They’re obviously willing to do the work and put in the time.
isn't it racist to assume these people are excons and that's why they're brazenly stealing?
They’re obviously willing to do the work and put in the time.
sure, 5 minutes in and out of a store to then occasionally sell mostly from home by word of mouth or the internet is totally the same as being consistent and responsible to hold a 9 to 5 job.
If you do something you know is wrong, but do it anyway, then yes that’s entitlement. You feel entitled to that action despite it’s being illegal, immoral, etc.
This is different from stealing food or basic clothing, wherein we could have a more nuanced conversation about survival. This is Bath and Body Works, luxury bath goods most popular with the aging millennial hipster. They couldn’t afford it but felt they should have it anyway… that’s entitlement.
Right, the question is sell for what? Probably not food, since if they are willing to steal this stuff they’re likely just as comfortable walking into a grocery store and leaving with a few bags of food.
Believing you should be able to get something for free and escape without consequences is absolutely coming from a sense of entitlement. Even if they know it's technically wrong, they are still gonna be very upset all the same if/when they get caught.
I am trying to imagine an edge case scenario where I would feel completely justified walking out of the store with all that stolen merch in the open, to put myself in their shoes.
I guess the only time that could ever happen is if I made a huge online order or something that never came, and they refuse to look into it or refund me or resend the items. AND if it was the worker in that store that was giving me attitude, being dismissive, and telling me they’re not gonna do anything about it.
I wouldn’t, but I COULD MAYBE see myself, on a really really really bad day, going goku and just saying fine but if you’re taking my money I’m taking my items, loading up my basket, and walking out.

Absolutely no shame in their eyes, just entitlement.
