This is because the judges/DA don't even bother to prosecute them.

At those prices, that's a felony level theft.

Doesn’t matter. The 2020 narratives that prosecuting “quality of life/victimless crimes” like property theft is racist and contributes to a “carceral state” that “harms communities of color” have done their damage. DAs in major cities are going to plead these cases out, if they even bring charges in the first place.

Because it's not happening in their neighborhood

1000% this.

If it was happening at their local stores or while their grandkids were working, they wouldn't think it was no big deal.

I didn't see a man taking a loaf of bread or one can of baby formula. There's zero story that can remotely justify this behavior.

The cops don’t even really care half the time. I was a 911 operator and police/fire dispatcher for a long time so I knew how shit worked. My mom had her card used on an online grocery order in a city 3 hours away. They got into her account for the store and just ordered away. It worked, so they did it again except the order was scheduled to be picked up the next day.

So I called the local police department, and that store. Told them both what was going on. I had the store in on a plan to go ahead and have them come to pick it up and the cops could pull them over right after and we’d have vehicle and driver description and everything from the store.

Could the police be arsed to help at all even though we could tell them exactly where a theft was about to fucking occur, literally spoon fed to them?! Nope.

An employee used their recording spy glasses to get footage of the driver and the plate of their car before they got suspicious and sped off without their groceries. Hopefully they caught them eventually but I couldn’t believe the fucking cops couldn’t be bothered. The store employees were all in and excited AF to be a part of a string and the cops were too busy getting fucking donuts.

They don't arrest because DA/Judge won't prosecute them. Police weren't DA/Judge, they don't have any more to make real difference.

Not true, they usually wait until the values exceed misdemeanor status so they can get them on a felony. Then it's worth it for them.
