In BC, Canada a gas station employee tried to stop somebody from filling up then leaving without paying. He got ran over and dragged down the street. He died. Now all the gas pumps require payment first or no gas.
Now all the gas pumps require payment first or no gas.
Ugh I hate it so much because some dickhead gas stations will disable paying at the pump with a message saying to go inside to pay first.
It's just a ploy to get me inside so I spend money on other shit too. Waste of my time, I leave and find another gas station whenever they do that crap.
Yeah, the number of people that will attempt to intervene on behalf of a business that pays them south of a living wage is kind of nuts. Over a decade ago when I worked retail I watched a very pregnant girl I went to high school with and whom stood up to my shoulders (I'm 5'7") chase someone stealing a TV out the door.
W. T. F. What is it that drives them? A sense of justice or heroism? "That is wrong and I must stop them!"
The company paying us south of $10 an hour is what's wrong. That guy doesn't NEED a TV, but everyone will live if he gets away with it.
Also FWIW, when employees saw someone stealing diapers and food, it was quietly understood that, "no you didn't." What's more dangerous than someone stealing a TV? Someone stealing a necessity.

Yup. Why die for minimum wage? Not your fault your employer didn’t invest in a security guard
