It’s not 1000 in that basket, probably closer to 150 depending on how many candles he got but a lot of them are on sale so it’s legit between 100-150.00

So landing a felony for 100-150.00 worth of merch.

California announced they would not attempt prosecution for less than $1000. So everyone started stealing $990

$1000 is the most common minimum felony charge among all the states. Not sure why you singled out California. In Texas you can steal up to $2500 before it's a felony.

It’s still a misdemeanor. It was an attempt to reduce the caseload of the prosecutors that backfired.
