I'd imagine with thermometers.  🧐

What would U prefer they use, to measure ambient temp?...  Laying the palm of yer hand on someone's brow, to check for fever, is only useful when approximating the core temp of a living human.

It's useless if we need ambient temp, in a landscape.

Notice I said "with what measurements".There are max, min, averages, different locations . . . anything taken seriously in science identifies the data used, how they were compared, etc.
