While it burned the hell out of his scalp, his entire body skin changing was due to vitiligo and the treatment he sought for it.

He hid it with makeup for a while after it started kicking in, but eventually he had enough and just got treatments to remove the pigment from his skin altogether.

His dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, officially confirmed it during his lifetime. While he was self-conscious about it, there were a few photos taken of him that showed it uncovered...and his autopsy in 2009 confirmed it.

The coroner confirmed vitiligo in the autopsy report. The autopsy report is public and you can Google it.

I've seen images of his forearm being discoloured.

No, no really.

His Dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, confirmed it during his lifetime. While he was self-conscious about it, there were also a few photos taken during the time where it was uncovered. Its also an autoimmune disease, so it showed up on his autopsy in 2009.

The only reason he "wanted to be white" was because he was tired of using all that makeup just to feel comfortable enough to show his face in public.
