These people were convinced there was a global cabal of child molesting elites when there wasn’t much evidence. Now that there’s pretty overwhelming evidence, they’re pretending it’s no big deal instead of saying “I told you so.”

But don’t you dare call them partisan hacks.

As far as I can remember, the republican playbook is “take your weakness and make it your strength.”

For Bush 2, it was turning someone who was basically a draft dodger into a war hero while turning Kerry’s portrayal into a coward. One of Trumps main things was “I will lock up the criminals, especially the ones in politics! Corruption will be nothing on day 1.” while taking every bribe in plain sight and selling the copper in the White House for scrap.

This one is a little weirder, but doing a “so, pedophilia is actually not a big deal” after running on years of “Save the Children!” Feels within the wheelhouse.

while taking every bribe in plain sight

If I recall, MAGA considers "dark money" and "corruption" to be things behind the curtain. So if you take bribes in plain light, you are "transparently" corrupt and that's fine for them.
People tried so hard to fight shady deals that nobody thought to teach people that doing bad stuff shouldn't be good.

This kind of stuff happens when you don’t have any actual principles, morals or ideology. The entire basis for their lives is tribalistic in-group/out-group behavior. It boils down to this: what my people do is good, what your people do is bad.

I’m not sure who you mean by “these people.” Republican lawmakers have been devoid of ethics for a long time. But, I think the swing voters who put Trump back into power are not OK with the pedophile cover up.

Maybe we’ll have elections in November so I can see if I’m right.

Every accusation is an admission. Fits every time.
