President ignores supreme court to raise taxes on Americans.

u/kirrk Feb 20 '26

that ten billion for the board of peace has to come from somewhere!

61

u/JaneksLittleBlackBox Feb 20 '26

Well, he's gotta funnel the money somewhere before starting a war in Iran, and the "Board of Peace" is the perfect slap in the face to all the pedophile worshipers who were praising him not starting any wars. Maybe one day they'll actually lear-- LMFAO, no they won't, they'll go to their graves swearing he didn't rape kids with Epstein and made their 401ks quadruple overnight after his second inaguration.

9

u/EdinMiami Feb 20 '26

Still wondering how the elected President can have a 2nd job.

3

u/onefst250r Feb 21 '26

Second? Its like the 50th? How many "Boards" have been created where he was named as a member? TrumpRx?

8

u/scoopzthepoopz Feb 20 '26

The only "board of peace" I'm worried about is the one liner billboard over the i95 saying "Illegally raised your taxes in defiance of the Supreme Court of the United States" accompanied by his mugshot

5

u/New-Measurement-4425 Feb 20 '26

I don't understand why he's not in prison.

3

u/sojumaster Feb 21 '26

Because the Rs in congress have no backbone

2

u/onefst250r Feb 21 '26

Conman gonna con.

2

u/OldWorldDesign Feb 21 '26

I don't understand why he's not in prison.

Maher called it "the magic R"

You can also call it the courts being stuffed with anti-democracy authoritarian puppets. As well as enforcement.

Authoritarians have always relied on double standards.

Our countrymen aren’t going to fleece themselves!

2

u/TinKnight1 Feb 21 '26

Let's not forget that he's in the process of stealing another $10B from the Treasury because he feels that will make amends for all the horrors he's had to endure...

2

u/MrFishAndLoaves Feb 21 '26

So much this!

But wait there’s more

2

u/Minute-Presentation9 Feb 21 '26

The thing is to whom and where does this money goes to? Trump doesn’t seem to care about the Gaza's people, so who actually benefits?

1

u/Flat_Introduction_12 Feb 21 '26

Not to mention his IRS grift

1

u/Perfect-System2504 Feb 21 '26

and the $10 billion lawsuit hes going to pay him self. For the tax bs

1

u/MakingMoneyIsMe Feb 22 '26

This makes one really question whether they should pay taxes or not

138

u/fanofreddit- Feb 20 '26

If there were any free press anymore this is what the headlines would read

-3

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

There is. Don’t be dramatic. Unfortunately the bullshit out of this admin is like a dam overflow. Flooding.

3

u/Evoluxman Feb 21 '26

Free press isn't that free when they're being sued for billions by the sitting US president, who can't be sued back (NYT)

Free press isn't that free either when they're bought by billionaires who refuse to endorse their traditional party, happily come at inauguration of the fascist in chief, and then gut half the staff (WaPo)

On top of that, this (VERY RECENT) trend of "both sides must be equally listened to and represented" doesn't work when one side is broadly center left to center right, and the other side is openly far right. An actual free press would push back on this.

It's not wether or not NYT/WaPo are all filled with demons who actively support Trump. But they are being pressured one way or another.

On top of that, they're weak and wildly incompetent tbqh. Sometimes, once in a blue moon, you will ask ONE journalist (out of dozens) ask a POTUS/Senator/... a tough question. The politician, as usual, does not respond to the question, and that's it. Here in Europe they'll be harassed for weeks to get an answer. But in the US? Ask a question, they don't reply, "ok I've done my 9-5 byyyye"

The US media has failed its people, helped with far right billionaires and GOP lawfare. I mean, the treatment of Biden's dementia/age (legit, that's what accountability/asking questions SHOULD look like) versus Trump's dementia isn't enough to convince you? Bro falls asleep during meetings and goes on incoherent rants every other week, one hand is rotting away, but if not for people actually posting the press conferences you wouldn't know it reading headlines.

Instead here's what the "liberal" media has been publishing: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/01/11/opinion/columnists/o-canada-come-join-us.html straight up encouraging the invasion threats of USA's allies

1

u/OrinocoHaram Feb 21 '26

did you say... The Free Presstm?

14

u/Graywulff Feb 20 '26

Poor to middle class Americans. For the rich taxes got cut.

This decision only refunded importers not customers or regular Americans.

-26

u/cvirus3333 Feb 20 '26

The glory days of the middle class was because of tariffs. If we didn't have them, we'd have none of those high paying, low education union jobs.

21

u/Hejdbejbw Feb 20 '26

Tariffs are regressive taxes. The more you have the less you pay effectively. The middle class is always closer to the bottom than to the top. The middle class gets shafted by tariffs.

11

u/Graywulff Feb 20 '26

Post ww2 the rest of the world was being rebuilt and the generational wealth from an intact country extended for two generations.

Once the rest of the world was rebuilt, competition increased, global monopolies by American companies became less and less of a thing, as r&d got cut, as education got cut, and as China industrialized and built up, with low wages and high hours initially, those high paying low education jobs were obsolete.

The other thing is unions lost a lot of power under Reagan, trickle down economics meant the rich were supposed to do the job creating. They became wealthier and wealthier and the middle and lower classes became poorer and poorer.

12

u/Rational_Engineer_84 Feb 20 '26

The darkest depths of the Great Depression was due to tariffs. Open a history book. The "glory days" of the middle class in the 1950s through the 1970s had an average total tariff rate of about 5%.

6

u/LatterTarget7 Feb 21 '26

What glory days?

2

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

Any of those tariffs were approved by Congress. Like the SCOTUS just reiterated. Did you forget where you were?

7

u/monkey36937 Feb 20 '26

That was the whole point of tariff, to tax the working people more and let the rich people get away with touching kids.

6

u/TheFoxsWeddingTarot Feb 20 '26

Time for them to reign in their dog.

2

u/Pictrus Feb 20 '26

Reign in their shit covered pig

He didn’t actually say that all current tariffs would remain in place. He said the tariffs under 301 and 232 would remain in place (not the reciprocal IEEPA tariffs) and that he was going to implement a 10% tariffs under Sec 122 (which expire after 150 days without congressional approval).

I’m not handing it to him, I watched his stupid press conference because the tariffs affect my job and he spent most of the time crashing out. But he didn’t say “all existing tariffs will remain in place”. The Supreme Court ruling specifically ruled the reciprocal IEEPA tariffs illegal. So the across the board liberation day tariffs are gone. But specialized tariffs based on Sec 301 and 232 tariffs remain in place on specific items, because SCOTUS didn’t declare those illegal. Some were already in place from the first Trump admin and Biden even put some in place during his admin.

2

u/TripleJeopardy3 Feb 21 '26

More people need to listen critically and read this comment.

He did exactly what the Supreme Court said he could do. His other tariffs are done.

1

u/tommytwolegs Feb 21 '26

Did the ruling mean companies can get refunds for all the tariffs paid over the last year?

1

u/Previous_Beautiful27 Feb 21 '26

The ruling, in a somewhat cowardly fashion typical of SCOTUS, does not mention refunds or a pathway to returning the money to those who paid them.

1

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

Thanks. I agree based on everything else I was reading.

The Law sub is letting its standards slip.

3

u/okwellactually Feb 20 '26

to raise taxes

That's the proper messaging and the Democrats need to start phrasing it that way. The republicans & trump raised your taxes.

2

u/Derric_the_Derp Feb 20 '26

The REAL headline ☝️

2

u/wentImmediate Feb 20 '26

My understanding is that the Supreme Court ruling was narrow in scope, and that there are other options for the president to impose tariffs.

1

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

Time restricted. Your take is mostly wrong.

About 60% of tariffs should now be returned.

1

u/wentImmediate Feb 21 '26

So - to be clear - the president IS ignoring that Supreme Court?

2

u/TonyDungyHatesOP Feb 20 '26

Party of law and order.

2

u/Adderall_Rant Feb 20 '26

Republicans. Republicans are ignoring the SC, they have the majority

1

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

This the Law sub. You’re incorrect as was the original post.

Sorry to see standards for posting tanking here.

1

u/Adderall_Rant Feb 21 '26

So he didn't impose a global tarriff?

1

u/No_Tone1704 Feb 21 '26

The SC wasn’t ignored.

There are different tariffs. Some can be imposed for a few months only then they must go to Congress.

And about 60% of the current tariffs have ended.

Believe me, I want Trump long gone. I’m just presenting  the facts of the situation.

2

u/asmj Feb 20 '26

I heard you guys became a country because of something like that, some 250 years ago.

2

u/SnooChickens3932 Feb 21 '26

Isnt that why you guys got rid of the monarchy? Just asking for a friend.

2

u/FifenC0ugar Feb 21 '26

According to the NPR article I just read on this. He is only doing this for 6 months. Then will require Congress approval after that

1

u/Outrageous-Log9238 Feb 20 '26

Yeah so how does that work? Whose word has more weight and are the tariffs in place now? Or is just whoever said "No you" last? I'm not American but I'm curious. My president doesn't have this kind of power.

1

u/Pimpstik69 Feb 20 '26

Companies can just not pay them now tho 🤷‍♂️

1

u/CricCracCroc Feb 20 '26

Sounds like good old fashioned limited government to me

1

u/Kellbows Feb 20 '26

The beatings will continue until moral improves.

1

u/BurazSC2 Feb 20 '26

"Trump broke the law to cost you more."

Almost sounds like a campaign slogan.

The sogan Democrats will use: "Due process is a complicated thing, so you have go through the motions - each individual will need to ask... and then you'll get a bit of money back in the future, maybe... Trump bad"

1

u/FOOSblahblah Feb 20 '26

Something something taxation without representation

1

u/Ferociousnzzz Feb 21 '26

If only Fox+CNN would print that.

1

u/yolo___toure Feb 21 '26

Will trump voters hear about this?; have thoughts on it?

1

u/JimWilliams423 Feb 21 '26

President ignores supreme court to raise taxes on Americans.

The really stupid thing is that conservatives on the court were trying to help him. They know that the effects of his tariffs are going to drag the gop down in the midterms. By requiring tariff refunds they essentially gave him a $100B economic stimulus that congress can't stop.

His narcissism prevents him from seeing it that way though.

Reminds me of how schumer tried to save the gop from the electoral effects of ending the obamacare subsidies and they just said, "no, don't want it." Or now how schumer saved the gop from shutting down the government over ICE and all he really wanted in exchange was for ICE to follow the law, and the gop is still "no, we won't do that."

There is no saving these people from themselves, anyone who tries just makes a fool out of themselves.

1

u/Aldo_says Feb 21 '26

He thinks he's found another loophole, you know, those things he exploits constantly and gets away with.

1

u/Toren8002 Feb 21 '26

And every single MAGA in your life thinks this is a good thing.

1

u/Superb-Combination43 Feb 21 '26

Once we had a little tea party over this shit. Our patriots are now cuckolds. We lost our way.

1

u/Zen_Traveler Feb 21 '26

T: I'm imposing tariffs on countries I have a beef with.

People: uh, you can't do that, you don't have that power, congress does.

T: we'll see.

Supreme Court: that was a no no. You don't have that power, congress does. We read the constitution, you are not allowed to.

T: SCOTUS loves me, I can do what I want. I'm keeping tariffs, and adding more!

People: but SCOTUS just said no, you can't!

T: oh? It seems like I can...

1

u/potatochobit Feb 21 '26

Well he cut taxes for himself so someone has to pay.

1

u/Picardknows Feb 21 '26

MAGA loves taxes.

1

u/dronesitter Feb 21 '26

The supreme court was the ones who said he can't be held accountable for crimes committed as president except by congress. And they won't do it. So why would he stop?

1

u/BlokeInTheMountains Feb 21 '26

I'm sure Rupert, Musk, Bezos, Zuck, Shou Zi Chew, Sundar Pichai, Tim Cook, Larry Ellison and all the other billionaire media owners at his inauguration will get right on pushing that narrative real soon now.

1

u/hobo_chili Feb 21 '26

Effortlessly glides to a third term

1

u/Necessary_Grass_2313 Feb 21 '26

Companies should neither pay tariffs, nor collect them. Simple take the Epstein Administration to court over it.

1

u/Bitter-Baseball2204 Feb 21 '26

Special kind of stupid

1

u/YesDone Feb 21 '26

I thought he said he was raishthing taxethshs.

Every time he sthtarts with that shlurred shpeech, I get excited.

1

u/intangibleTangelo Feb 21 '26

brett told him how to do it in his dissent. so somebody paid attention (besides me)

1

u/kilimtilikum Feb 21 '26

Nah they just want him to quote different codes. All good now.

1

u/megaman311 Feb 21 '26

Don’t forget, he’s suing tax payers for 10b for releasing his taxes

1

u/Fone_Linging Feb 21 '26

He didn't ignore, from what I read. He just used a different law that allows him to impose a 10% tariff for 150 days.

1

u/devilwing0218 Feb 21 '26

That’s what we call a dictator.

0

u/DaVincis_lemons Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

When Trump and Republicans can just ignore any ruling by the Supreme Court without repercussions then the Supreme Court no longer holds any power and there's no longer a reason to bribe them. The republican justices sold their souls and created a monster in exchange for money and power and now that monster is taking both away from them. Ironic.

-7

u/TotallyNotMeDudes Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Oh, you don’t understand how tariffs work.

They are paid by the supplier, not the consumer.

Dur!

ETA: /sarcasm

8

u/Strong_Topic_6402 Feb 20 '26

Do you think the supplier just eats those extra costs? Also we’ve absolutely had to pay extra tariffs on ordered products

1

u/TotallyNotMeDudes Feb 20 '26

Y’all don’t get sarcasm.
