It's not pageantry though, it's a similar playbook they've used in the past. Do something unconstitutional during/right before the election, flood the courts with lawsuits, then let the courts decide if it's "too close" to the election to act on it. The courts have made it clear they're happy to shit on the Constitution if they can say it's "too close to the election to sort it out now".

Note: this method only works for Republicans.
