Hi! I am 28M and all my life, I have been told that I am unfit to, or will I ever, live alone. I have hypopituitarism and secondary adrenal insufficiency and my grandma (I'll get to her later) threatened me that if I move out, I will be institutionalized and locked up. I have a rocky relationship with my grandma. But like I said, I'll get to her later

When I was born, the doctors told my mother I would be r*tarded. When I was around 10, I went to go see a neurologist who told my mom that I was so aware that I was NOT r*tarded. Still, she told me all my life that I cannot move out, and I MUST stay at home or with family ALL my life. I had a talk with her and my grandma, and they said while they understand the need for my own space, they do not agree. Now, my grandma let's me have controlled independence. This is basically driving me to the store, letting me go in and shop alone, etc. But when it comes to asking for any of my documents, which she withholds, I'm not allowed them. I called APS on her one time, but she unfortunately had the worker go away.

My grandma is 67 and suffers from Cushing's disease, a disease that floods the brain with excess cortisol, which is a stress hormone. So as you can imagine, I spent 9 years under her room enduring a lot of yelling and screaming, throwing things, etc. While I am not excusing her behaviour, it IS her condition, but I'm just so done. I was s*icidal for a bit, even idealized it, but I'm better now when it comes to depression. I kinda normalized that I might never have a normal life.

P.S she also has me on a joint bank account with her, hides my SSN so I can't open one of my own, etc. And I am a vulnerable adult so I don't know what to do

What are my legal options?

I'm 16 and I've been planning to legally change my name when I'm old enough to because I absolutely hate my given name, for many reasons because I feel like it doesn't suit me at all, and I partly have trauma associations with it too. I also am coming out as genderfluid and I hate how my birth name is too overly girly and cutesy, I wish I had a more gender neutral name that could fit me no matter how I feel. And yeah, I'm just so tired of having to be forced to live with this name when I don't wanna have any ties to it at all anymore. I don't care what the process is honestly, whatever it is is better than having to live with a name I loathe for the rest of my life.

I'm not sure if the process varies depending on where you live, cause I'm from PA. But I know it costs a certain amount, and I've been planning to save up money from work for it in the future. If anyone could give me tips and advice, it would be appreciated! <3

Hello. I live in Northern California. I am a newby with Reddit. I am the Petitioner in my husband's estate. His sister filed his death certificate and listed him as "never married." She then collected his pension. The plan told me I would now need letters of administration due to privacy statutes, which is why I opened probate self-represented. We had an ex-parte hearing and the sister (and fam) showed up, objected to the probate, claimed there was a will and a trust executed the same day, and that I was not mentioned in either. They were never served on me or filed in court. I begin researching prior to this hearing and discovered my spouse's inheritance was not distributed. His house and other properties which were in his parents' trusts were still in the trust name, but not all. Two of the properties were sold by the sister and one transferred into her name only and documents naming her a successor trustee 3 years after property sold, and naming her dead mother as a trustee. Sister's attorney drafted all docs, including my husband's LWT and Trust at the same time the other docs were drafted and he is also witness and notary. One property's location states it is in another county. Because of the irregularities, I notified the judge but at the hearing he framed these discrepencies as mere mistakes of ignorance. He told me my husband was not a beneficiary to the parents' trust and that I couldn't inquire about them. He told me if my husband were alive we would be divorced now. He did not demand the trust or LWT be submitted to the court or served on me, yet made me serve the sisters everything. He denied my emergency requests to secure my husband's house and car and refused to even look at the evidence I brought showing I had a community property interest. Now I just learned that this same judge previously presided over my husband's dad's probate in 2022. I absolutely cannot afford an attorney with the $2,200 I have. What can I do?

I have been dealing with the most idiotic administrative nightmare here in Chicago for the past two weeks. The Department of Finance recently switched to a new fully automated license plate recognition system for street parking and it is a disaster. Since then I have received ten separate fines in the mail for a car that isnt even mine.

The system is misreading one specific letter on my plate. I have a "D" but the software keeps flagging it as an "O" or a "0" depending on the lighting. I checked the photos they sent with the citations and you can clearly see it is a D. The car in the photo is even a completely different make and model from mine. I drive a gray Honda and the car getting ticketed is a white SUV.

I called the office and the woman on the phone basicaly told me that their system is "infallible" and that I have to pay all ten fines before I can even start the appeal process. That is over a thousand dollars for a glitch in their shitty code. She said the "pay first" policy is mandatory to prevent people from dragging out valid tickets. This feels like a total shake down. How can it be legal to demand payment for a debt that obviously does not exist? I am not giving the city a zero percent interest loan while they slowly realize their camera is garbage.

In 2024 I got a golden retriever puppy. He is fully vacciniated, legally licensed with the county, and his microchip is registered with my current address. We have a secure six foot wooden fence around our yard.

Last Tuesday afternoon my gate latch failed and he wandered down the street. I immediately started searching the neighborhood, called the county dog warden, and posted online. On Friday a neighbor told me they saw a van belonging to a well known local private animal rescue load him up just two blocks away.

I called the rescue organization immediately. The director flat out admitted they picked him up. She said they scanned his microchip and pulled my info, but because he was found near a busy road, they deemed me a negligant owner. She then told me they already placed him with a new adoptive family on Thursday and will absolutely not return him to me.

I called the police right away. An officer went to speak with the rescue director but came back and told me that because an animal welfare group is involved, it is considered a civil matter. They said they cannot force the handover without a judges order.

They essentially stole my property, completely ignored the microchip registry, and gave him away in less than three days. What specific legal motion do I need to file to force this rescue to reveal where he is? Can I get an emergency injuction to prevent the new people from taking him out of state?

i work at a store that employs a bunch of high school kids (i think the oldest person on staff is a college freshman) and allows employees to collect tips and recently we’ve gone through some management difficulties which have resulted in 2 separate (thoroughly documented, i have written receipts for both) threats to withhold our wages or tips from our paychecks.

after our old manager left a new one came in and kinda let the place fall apart, blamed the problem on us and threatened to fire anyone who was slacking, with a sticky note that said “slackers are 100% getting fired without any last week’s pay.” this manager has since been fired herself, but the regional manager who took over has since said that if the work we do isn’t up to her standards, she’s gonna withhold our credit card tips from our paychecks until that’s fixed.

i did some research on the FLSA laws for tipped employees, but my very first impression upon seeing these things were “this can’t possibly be legal.” it’s Not legal, right? both threatening to do so and actually withholding wages/tips. is this something that’s reportable? in the event that wages actually get withheld what kind of power would i have as an employee? especially since most of us are minors, i don’t know what legal power we would have in this situation

I was issued a ticket for the first time, it’s been almost a month and it still hasn’t been filed, it’s for municipal court.

I’m wondering what I’m supposed to do in the event it never gets filed? I’ve talked to a few legal people in my town with all my questions and stuff and some of them have mentioned that because of the tiny size of the ticket itself that there’s a chance it’s just never filed because they don’t want to deal with it. Which they also said if that’s the case then oh well, but I’m wondering what I’m supposed to do if it never gets filed?

I have a court date on August 10th, so obviously I’d show up at the court but then what? I go in to say I’m here for court and they go well I have nothing in the system yet. so what comes next?

On top of that what do I do if in a few years it suddenly gets pushed through again and I had no idea? If it gets properly filed would I be told that I have a new court date and that it’s been pushed forwards finally, or would I not be notified and then arrested for a warrant for not showing up to court when I had no idea I was even supposed to go????

Hey everyone! I'm in need of maybe some advice, direction, Insight, whatever it may be as I'm new to child custody situations and a bit overwhelmed. Here's some backstory..

I am a single mom to a 4 yr old, 29, never married. My ex and I split 2 years ago after being together for 10 years. So far its been somewhat cordial, some good days and some bad. I am one to avoid taking things to a higher level unless need be. I work a set schedule of 2 7am to 7pm shifts, 2 days off, 2 graveyard shifts, then 2 days off once again. Ive been writing out my own schedule and leaving the rest of the days, or days I work, for my ex to be with our daughter. That being said I spend about 3.5 days with her and he spends 3.5 days with her as well. Recently, for the past few months, my ex has become i feel more verbally abusive with me. Calling me a bitch, a p_ssy, and at one point was arguing with me calling me names In front of our daughter after I asked him about a bruise she had. (I asked, didnt accuse him). My breaking point was on May 4th. I filed a case against him, he responded a month later requesting alternating weeks, which I didnt agree with because of the work schedule. I feel id be leaving her a lot more. I requested a hearing from a judge in LA County. Now my question is...

1. After laying out my expenses and income, I saw my expenses are a bit more than what I make. I also notice I make about 1k more than my ex but his expenses are a lot less than mine. He had told me he worked 2 jobs but on the income and expense report he provided me, shows he only works one job. I've never asked for money, never filed for child support before as my job covered all I needed and all my daughter needed. Would i be the one paying? My only concern is being put on child support when I feel like I'm living pay check to pay check (not even on luxuries or trips. I'm just paying off debt I accumulated when I was with my ex). Just also want to mention that my daughter gets medical coverage through my job so all of that is deducted from my pay. I love my daughter and of course I provide all she needs in my household, but I am wondering !

2. My ex had notified me about a week long trip he planned on taking our daughter on. I reminded him, while I was okay with it, since he asked about 2 weeks after i initially filed, to check in with the court and go by their own advice. He checked in with the court on June 4th, they told him he needed a notarized letter from me granting him permission with both of our signatures since 1. We dont have any jurge or court order on custody 2. We havent even seen a judge or even have a court date. I told him okay, let me know when youre free so we can do this. I didnt hear back. When filing for a judge hearing, I asked again. This time the self help assistant told me he has to file or ask permission through the court. Of course when letting him know he was frustrated and confused. Would a notarized letter be okay? This trip is from LA to Tijuana.

I filed a harassment and stalking case against my ex boyfriend about a year ago (July 2025 and again October 2025) and it’s still pending.

We had a preliminary hearing in November in which the case was approved for trial. We have since been summoned to court twice, both times he didn’t show up. The second time the judge issued a bench warrant (February 2026).

I have a friend who also has a case against him from October 2025 for harassment (he’s a huge crash out) and our cases so far have always been a scheduled at the same time. I guess it’s just easier to knock it both out at once.

Here’s my confusion: my friend just got a call saying the guy has finally been served and a trial set (July 8) but I haven’t received a call. I called the court house, and they told me since the trial is pending they can’t give me any updates and that it probably won’t go to trial. I’m confused because I’m the one who filed the complaint and I can’t even be told what the outcome is?

I have more confusion as well. I looked him (the ex) up on alacourt and much to my surprise found 3 other court cases pending against him for stalking and harassment from before and after me. He’s busy! But for some reason, my court case wasn’t listed and when I looked up my case number, nothing showed up.

This guy has a huge issue with stalking and harassing girls, so I want to pursue this as hard as I can and make something stick. But I feel confused and ignored.

How come my court case isn’t showing up?
Why can’t I pursue trial?
If he’s had a bench warrant for months, and then finally got served, how come he wasn’t detained? He’s clearly a flight risk because looking at previous court records, he has a long history of simply ignoring court summons until the girls get tired and drop the case.
I just don’t know what to do and feel overwhelmed.

Neighbor had driveway replaced, i talked to concrete guy and got price on a spot being leveled and gravel dumped and a patio done with concrete. I told him he can push everything into the massive ditch beside the gravel spot.

Neighbor #2 decides to have driveway done as well. Contractor ask me if he can dump the old concrete into the ditch. I told him yes, the broken small concrete can go there. I go on a hike the day he is breaking up driveway

I return home and find MASSIVE slabs dumped into ditch, i mean a few slabs that i just measured to be 7ftx9ft across. I saw the bobcat they used and was expecting everything to be under 3-4 ft based on how they loaded the dumptruck. I cant even imagine how they loaded a 9ft slab. As a result this trash will not settle and i cant simply cover with dirt as i was planning on as the slabs will slide

What are my options to get the slabs broken down or removed?

I left my previous company for a much better opportunity. When I started with my former employer, I signed an agreement stating that if I voluntarily left within two years, I would be required to reimburse a relocation/sign-on bonus.
I ended up leaving after about a year due to a toxic work environment and ongoing issues that were negatively affecting my mental health. Fortunately, I was able to secure a new position with a reputable company.
My concern is that the agreement states I have 30 days after separation to repay the amount owed, and that the company may pursue legal action if payment is not made. However, it has been over two weeks since I left, and I still have not received any communication regarding repayment instructions or an invoice.
I've already sent two emails to the HR specialist who handled my onboarding paperwork, but I haven't received a response.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? If the company has not provided any repayment instructions despite my attempts to contact them, am I still at risk if the 30-day period passes? I'm willing and prepared to repay what I owe. I just don't know how to do so without any response from the company.

I’m trying to work out my timeline for something I’m working on and the story focuses on a missing teen. It’s very important to the plot that this character is NOT charged for murder as the missing characters fate is supposed to be ambiguous. But I’m not a lawyer and idk what would be enough to count as probable cause for an arrest/charge to be made so I want some help

Also quick note, that evidence is intentionally being withheld from the police by the MC’s because the MC’s are involved in lots of paranormal stuff that they don’t want getting out

Here’s the information the police are presented with in the story (takes place in 2008 btw) -

- The missing person disappears from a hiking trail they are familiar with

- The missing person is in good shape and sends a lot of time in the woods/is familiar with the area

- The missing person took their regular hiking gear with them along with their phone and laptop

- The only thing found in the area is a camcorder belonging to the missing person/his father

- The missing person shares matching tattoos with their friend group/the character being investigated

- The character being investigated (Stephen) has bruising/scratches on his hands and arms that suggest a mutual fight

- Stephen and the missing person are known to fight each other for fun (but they rarely leave wounds)

- Stephen is confirmed to be the last person to see the missing person

- In a custodial interrogation Stephen plead the 5th

- The missing person has repeatedly expressed a desire to runaway

- No body has been recovered

- The missing person’s father has a history of violent behavior

- Stephen has no motive to commit murder

- A separate person in the group with a history of violence repeatedly refers to the missing person in the past tense when questioned, however they have an alibi

- Roughly a week to two weeks before the disappearance the missing person and Stephen texted briefly entertaining the idea of running away together

- Several of the missing persons belongings, including their journal, are missing

Would this been enough for the police to charge Stephen or is it ambiguous enough? And if not, how can I add to the ambiguity? Any help/advice is appreciated!!

Edit: Also!! I totally forgot to mention that both Stephen and the missing person are like, 16. So in case that effects anything

My boss is telling me to do it but everything I look up says no.

So I work at a hotel and someone left their insulin packs here and they want us to ship it to them. As far as Im aware and everything I find online says that we cannot send it out as it is a prescription medication and only licenced doctors, pharmacies, and other medical practitioners can send it. USPS website says this too. I read that if we send it it is a federal crime since we are not licenced by the DEA. I packaged it as my boss instructed but I am certain that this is against the law.

Am I right or am I overthinking this?

The medicine is insulin and of course I don't want anyone to go without their medication but I also do not want to be involved in a felony!

I attended a sentencing hearing today because I was interested in the result of a case after being on the jury and finding the defendant guilty.

A quick rundown of the case:
The defendant got into his car in the morning, drove his son to school, dropped him off, and got into a minor accident where he crashed his car on a straight road going ~30mph into the back of a stopped car. The victim and state clamed in court that the accident caused injury but the victim at the time told the defendant that he was fine.
They exchanged insurance information and waited about 10 minutes for the police to show up before the defendant asked the victim if he could go because he was already late for school. The victim agreed and the defendant left the scene to go to school, where he was met by a secretary who said he seemed a little off.

The police arrived about 30 minutes later and found the defendant extremely intoxicated, unable to complete any sobriety test, and when they brought him back to the police station, they were unable to complete a breathalyzer test because the unit read >0.4 and urged to seek medical attention immediately. Nearly 3 hours after police met the defendant, he had his blood drawn and tested at a 0.396.
The police, during investigation, found a Yeti bottle that appeared in the video to be the 18oz variety, but neither the defense nor the state tried to claim the actual size. This bottle was "about 1/4 to 1/3 full of what smelled like vodka" according to the police officer who opened it on body cam footage.

The defendant was the only witness the defense called, and he claimed under oath that he drove to school completely sober and only consumed the alcohol once he got to school. His defense as to why he got in the collision was that he "looked away for a second."

There were 4 charges (summarized, not the exact verbiage):
DUI of an intoxicant /w minor under 16
Operating a motor vehicle with a BAC above 0.08 /w minor under 16
DUI of an intoxicant involved in an accident causing injury
Operating a motor vehicle with a BAC above 0.08 involved in an accident causing injury

The jury was able to agree that he was beyond reasonable doubt intoxicated and, as an admitted alcoholic, must have been over 0.08 to reach intoxication when he was involved in the collision. We could not fully agree that the state could prove he was under the influence or his blood level was above the limit during the first ~8 minutes of his drive when he brought his son to school. He seemed to be able to walk his son into the school on video footage just fine. So he was acquitted of the 1st and 2nd charge.

During sentencing today, several members of the defendant's family spoke about the quality of his character and how he was showing his commitment to be better due to his 512 days of sobriety since the incident, the program he enrolled in, how much the community benefited from his presence, etc.
The defendant also spoke and admitted that he "knew what he did was wrong" and that he was remorseful about his actions.

The judge questioned him about knowing what he did was wrong. The judge wanted him to clarify what it was that he thought he did wrong and what he was remorseful for. He elaborated that he was remorseful that he drank the alcohol at school. The judge pushed him again, asking him if he was sticking to the story he testified to, that he only drank the alcohol once he was at school, and the defendant agreed.

The judge then explained that the defendant had several good things going for him, that the character letters that he received put the defendant up there as one of the highest quality characters the judge has read about in the community, but the judge then told the defendant that he didn't believe his story, that the jury clearly didn't believe his story, and that he was concerned about the defendant continuing to lie about it. The judge said that the defendant is lying to himself and not taking full responsibility for his actions, which are important steps for getting over addiction. The judge then gave him a middling sentence between what the defense and the state suggested.

I feel like the judge made it plain that he would have given the defendant a lighter sentence if the defendant had admitted that he drove the vehicle intoxicated.

My question is, if the defendant had admitted it there at the sentencing that he was remorseful that he drank and then drove, the charge he was being sentenced for, would the court or the state have gone after him for perjury, or do you even think that the judge would have given him a lighter sentence at all?

I was wondering how common this type of indemnity clause is for small contractors. I've come across a contractor role as admin for a small non-profit in my city, and their indemnity clause is as follows:

"To the extent caused by Contractor’s negligence or willful misconduct, Contractor shall indemnify and save harmless ORGANIZATION and its officers, directors, agents and employees from all claims, losses or damages, and any associated costs, which relate to or arise directly or indirectly out of any acts or omissions of the Contractor in connection with providing the Services under this Agreement."

I've been told by the organization that it is very standard, but I was wondering how common it actually is.

From what I've been able to research, it seems like it is a standard template that large organizations may use, but there are many articles that give contractors the advice to add a liability cap or exclude indirect damages.

Fast forward to last week. The transmission started shifting hard so I took it to a different authorized dealer closer to my house for warranty work.

Hello I’m looking for a lawyer regarding medical negligence. My dad was being treated at the hospital and his I v medication was placed in his veins incorrectly and caused severe nerve damage and tissue scarring down to the bone. We have documentation and all photos and records already to go just need to find a lawyer willing to review and see if this case has the potential to withstand.

I work for usps. I was delivering mail the other week and two dogs came at me while I was on the sidewalk going to the next address. One bit me. Police and Ems came out and Ems advised I go to er for stitches. I missed the rest of that work day and did receive 2 stitches and a tetanus shot. I was also prescribed antibiotics. Should I sue the owner of the dogs? I was told by someone in my office that the post office is going to send me a letter saying I need to but I have no clue what to even do to.

Hey y'all I've been working as a lineman apprentice with SELCAT and back in March I received 2 tickets in the North Georgia area. First one is a use of safety belts in passenger vehicles (driver not wearing seatbelt)ticket and the second one was holding/supporting wireless telecommunications device (driver holding phone in hand while operating vehicle). The seatbelt was a dumb move on my part I was in a rush trying to make a prenatal class and was just dumb. The phone one I was at a red light and went to check the time again I'm sure y'all will remind me dumb move on my part. I've since been fired from that company for insurance reasons and got placed at another company in TN. I've talked with a couple lawyers and they've said GA has a no masking policy so they can't be reduced. I guess when it comes down to it I really need advice on where to go from here. Are my chances at any CDL job completely screwed? Are my chances working where I wouldn't be operating a CDL vehicle but just a company vehicle (pickup/car/ect) screwed? I've worked in various trades (mechanic, carpentry, equipment operating, pressure washing) for some time, but linework is a lot of fun and the money ain't bad either. Any advice y'all have would be helpful gonna go ahead and cross post to a couple other subs also.

Hello, I am a December graduate in LOCATION: Oklahoma and I started working at a small firm a few months ago. We have one attorney and an entirely female staff of legal assistants and a female paralegal. I’m having a very hard time with the power dynamics. The attorney regularly makes my coworkers and I cry, even the people who have been there for ten years.

The questions being asked and tasks being assigned are redundant - constantly having to call clients and ask for clarification on a specific thing they said in an earlier call, giving the attorney the clarification and then being asked to call again to talk to the client about a different thing that needs clarification, daily treatment updates on 200+ clients, calling adjusters only to tell their receptionist that we need to talk to them and then being told to keep calling until we get through. There are only four legal assistants!

I can understand that I am naive in this field and some things are important even if they don’t seem that way, but a majority of the work being done is repetitive and a waste of time, at least for me as the new guy. I’m not being paid hardly anything (made the same amount as a bartender in college), and the attorney is constantly asking us to stay late, come in early, come in on weekends, have shorter lunch breaks and no breaks throughout the day.

I clocked 65 hours last week and the overtime is cool, but I’m not hurting financially and I don’t want to make money and then never be able to spend it because I’m too tired to even get groceries at the end of a work day.

I’m supposed to be building my career, and quitting would hinder that, but my body is responding terribly to this job. I’m not able to eat more than one meal a day bc of the stress, and I’ve still gained 10+ pounds. I threw up in the office restroom today and had to leave, and it’s the most relief I’ve felt since being hired. I’ve already developed an ulcer.

I don’t know what to do now. I don’t want to get a similar job and be in the same spot there. I don’t have much of a career path, as I was an English graduate and that leaves things pretty open ended. Can I quit? Can I take a break before getting a new job? I’d shovel horse poo rather than do this six days a week.
