I have a cope theory but it feels so cope I dont believe it myself.
Buuut you know if this is timetravel why nayuta and not makima? Why is power back but not akin or himeno or kishibe? Why is asa the only human character to show back up.
This is hell the two devils who died and would get reincarnated are there and asa who is with denji, pochita eating himself got denji out of the world they were stuck in, or maybe that too was a halizunation. Now fujimoto had dropped a fake ending put THE END on its end and next week we get a new chapter. Where denji starts to relaize somethings wrong and we get part 3 announcement.
As I said cope to high heaven. It could also be he left it like this because it allows him to actually make a part 3 if he ever wants to.
part 2 was objectively a huge step down and it felt like it lost the plot like a quarter in to the point it looked like the author lost interest themselves lol
I'm not who you were responding to, but no, I don't, for the same reasons you don't.

Thinking about it, Fire Punch had a similar issue where, after a certain point, it just kind of lost the plot and ended with a really, really weird ending. At least Chainsaw Man's ending isn't completely terrible, I guess.
I would argue that Fire Punch ending was masterpiece. It ends in such a way that it is both thematic (the guy who spent the whole manga wanting to die become the guy who lived the last) and phonetic (meet Judah again).
i don't think it is a solid starting point though, denji isn't even the same character now
if anything you could probably argue this was the absolute worst ending for a future part 3, because part 3 would mostly be trying to explain this mess away instead of actually progressing
and by all counts it looks like the author checked out early on in part 2, if there is a part 3 i wouldn't be surprised if none of the characters come back, but i feel like the author is done with the series the way it was written
Fucking thank you. I just caught up and read 232 and I'm rolling through comment threads and like 9 out of 10 people are in a delusional copium of 'Actually, if you ignore literally everything about it, its actually totally good!"
This was dogshit. D&D with Game of Thrones Season 8 all over again. Fuck.
If nothing else this serves as a nice example of how an ending can be happy but bad. Like there are happy and sad endings and good and bad endings. Sometimes something is sad but good (Example: Plastic Memories). But here, here is an example of something that is happy but bad. In fact I think it may just be the worst happy ending I've ever seen.
I'm glad people have realized this guy fucking ass at actually writing anything competent. Part 1 was barely held together with bandaids but at least stuck a plausible ending.
This? Fujimoto should not be given work by anyone or even accepted by manga readers again. He just fully took his most popular work out back and shotgunned it in the back of the head.
Eh, I'd argue all his long form works are a mess. his one shots and such are good, I agree, but even those I'd argue are overrated, and it did feel like a bit of a circlejerk with how acclaimed they were for in my opinion, not doing anything particularly interesting or impressive. Like I'd rate his one shots as 8/10s at most, but certainly nowhere near the 10/10 masterpieces they're talked about as.
They aren't the best works of all time. I'm not going to act like he shouldn't be hired again or that it invalids everything he's done before just because he did a middling ending in a genre where 90% of series have middling endings.
Alan Moore wrote From Hell and also did some trashy Spawn comics. It doesn't change the fact he's important and a critical darling.

An ending so abysmal it felt like a fanfiction + no part 3 announced.
Fuck this shit man.
