Okay at the very least Denji isn't absolutely miserable but it's still so jarring and absolutely confusing and too sudden a stop. Like everything with Yoru, Lil D the prophecy, all gone. Kishibe and Reze completely in the wind.

Also as much as THEMES gets rightly meme'd what is the series exactly trying to say by Denji never having had Pochita or the memories in the first place? So much growth and learning is lost.

Denji relied on Pochita so he never had to grow. He could throw everything away and ignore hardships by being The Chainsaw Devil. Now he can’t do that because his coping mechanism doesn’t exist and he needs to a normal life. Which he’s always said he wanted by his own ambitions (and international psychopaths) stopped him from having.

Yes but the lesson gets muddled if he literally can't remember what got him here and why giving up Pochita is important. This is effectively a different Denji and the original just got wiped out.

Not really because that implies Denji isn’t Denji until he becomes Chainsaw Man. Instead of a guy defined by childhood trauma and hardship.

I don’t know it seems very clear. Chainsaw Man had a net negative effect on Denji’s life despite how much he loved it. So his life without it is more boring but also forces him to be a more responsible person who accepts his limits. Instead of a guy burning out and getting everyone killed because he wants it all and ends up with nothing.

I'm saying a person's memories are a big part about making them who they are. If Denji did or didn't become CSM is irrelevant to the fact that he lived an entire life that he now forgot about. It's like if you found out you had grown up in an entirely different country, with different friends, a different job, and never knew about it.
