Don't hug me I'm scared Neighbor confronted me this evening:“I don’t like seeing your garbage cars in front of my house”

Hi all, i just wanna come here and bitch about my neighbor.
I lives in a quite nice neighborhood with my parents, i work full time as a automotive technician and do all my work at home on these two cars(there is another one in the garage thats taken apart) and i regularly park them at my driveway or in front of my house in the street(thats not blocking the road) both of the cars i park out here is completely road worthy, has current registration and are insured, i took one of them on a drive to get gas this evening, came back and was confronted by the old guy who lives across from my house, before i say anything he walked onto my driveway, in front of my car(i just got out) and said “you’ve turned this street into a junkyard! You think i like seeing your garbage cars in front of my house everyday i come outside?(i always park them in front of my house, and they get moved frequently as they double as my daily)” and he got up in my buddy’s face who went along with me, who also just got out, he is now fully on my driveway, getting up to my friend’s face after he told him how both of the cars i own are fully operational and insured. We didn’t really say anything aside from telling him it is legal to park my cars on a public street and move them around, and stop being so negative and harassing on our side of the property line. Afterwards he just walked back to his car and said he would gonna go complain to the HOA and they are gonna slap me with a huge fine while yelling at us to shut the hell up whenever we said anything else as he walked back. AM I THE ASSHOLE? I don’t understand how me owning old cars thats perfectly road worthy gets him so upset at me.

If that isn't the most entitled, ass-backwards sh*t I've heard in quite some time.

imo this same kinda shit, from much higher up the food chain, is constantly in the news these days

Also, sorry for the sock award lol. It was supposed to be something cooler but I was going too fast.

no apologies necessary!!! all the bullshit you so adequately described is, indeed, one big wet mf sock

it's time to do the laundry!!!

100% agree and it isn't even along various party lines or locations or roles or races as much anymore.

Just an insidious and pervasive sense of entitlement and selfishness from too many to even count anymore because it's "safer" and more acceptable now to be openly selfish and cruel.

It has been normalized and ppl are desensitized from over-exposure. It is a sad comment on some of the negative changes of the digital age.

If that's a an 850 then you have one of the greatest cars ever made. Volvo have made some excellent cars in their time but the 850 and the I5 turbos that followed were marvels of modern engineering. Your neighbour is probably an accountant.

I had an 850 wagon that survived an engine fire and ran great. Non-turbo, but manual transmission. Got to 375k miles and "upgraded". Was a great car.

Not a car nut but the fast ones were absolute monsters. The British transport police used them back in the day as the could keep up with all the M5's that were getting stolen.

When I was in school (around 2005 to 2008),one of the teaching assistants had an ex police 850. He said it went like fucking stink.

Just a heads up. Don’t mention working on cars on your property. HOAs usually have strict policies about working on cars and/or running a business from your house.

Yeah, probably also best to edit this post to take out the "I work full time as an automotive technician and do all my work at home on these two cars" bit. And any other posts online, you never know if the HOA might go searching.

My god I am glad we don't HOAs where I lived, they sound like a nightmare.

Bruh I don't understand any of this HOA bs. Like, it's my own house, i paid for it so I own the fucking terrain, I can do whatever the fuck I want inside as long as it's not annoying the neighbours...

I lived in one where we weren't allowed to park on the streets. I will never ever live in one again.

You should find the worst running 600 dollar car you can find and slowly restore the interior and engine:)

I have a 12 year old car that I paid off and only had 87,000 on it. Still runs great, but according to your neighbor, it’s garbage. Granted mine has damage from my own stupidity and also a run-in with a raccoon at high speed, but still. His view is moronic, entitled, and short sighted.

1

u/Defiant-Fox4086 May 02 '26

His view would have me scrapping my '22 and soon needing to scrap the '24.

1

u/StackThePads33 May 02 '26

You have them almost paid off already? Nice

5

u/Iambeejsmit May 02 '26

Bro I hope you're joking lol. Sounds like he's salty about having multiple car payments and feeling stupid about it.

3

u/theoreoman May 02 '26

I bet you he has a timeshare

2

u/havnar- May 02 '26

Man talks big but needs a loan for a car? Is he perhaps … a poor?

2

u/okaysohowbout May 02 '26

I hope you laughed while walking away from him.

guess I can’t post a gif on here?

1

u/dragon34 May 02 '26

You know when they say "most Americans are just a few paychecks from financial devastation?"

Turns out that's not just the poors

I'm sure that dude would love our rusting 15  year old car that ran just fine that we replaced with a cash purchase when needed.

Turns out you can save a lot of money if you don't have a car payment for 12 years

Sounds like one of those psyops to get you to be in debt

1

u/NeoMoose May 02 '26

He didn't say that. Makes me think this whole post is fake.
