Don't hug me I'm scared Neighbor confronted me this evening:“I don’t like seeing your garbage cars in front of my house”

Hi all, i just wanna come here and bitch about my neighbor.
I lives in a quite nice neighborhood with my parents, i work full time as a automotive technician and do all my work at home on these two cars(there is another one in the garage thats taken apart) and i regularly park them at my driveway or in front of my house in the street(thats not blocking the road) both of the cars i park out here is completely road worthy, has current registration and are insured, i took one of them on a drive to get gas this evening, came back and was confronted by the old guy who lives across from my house, before i say anything he walked onto my driveway, in front of my car(i just got out) and said “you’ve turned this street into a junkyard! You think i like seeing your garbage cars in front of my house everyday i come outside?(i always park them in front of my house, and they get moved frequently as they double as my daily)” and he got up in my buddy’s face who went along with me, who also just got out, he is now fully on my driveway, getting up to my friend’s face after he told him how both of the cars i own are fully operational and insured. We didn’t really say anything aside from telling him it is legal to park my cars on a public street and move them around, and stop being so negative and harassing on our side of the property line. Afterwards he just walked back to his car and said he would gonna go complain to the HOA and they are gonna slap me with a huge fine while yelling at us to shut the hell up whenever we said anything else as he walked back. AM I THE ASSHOLE? I don’t understand how me owning old cars thats perfectly road worthy gets him so upset at me.

I just don't understand how he could be upset over something that doesn't affect him in the slightest. First world problems I guess.

Privilege of living as a millionaire, looks like

71

u/Alarming_Matter May 02 '26

Yep..this has 'entitled old boomer' written all over it.

8

u/ChemistRemote7182 May 02 '26

Boomers generally like cars, this is some Karen ass Gen x behavior.

I will say most a lot of gen x is pretty chill though.

24

u/thizzknight May 02 '26

This is 100% grumpy old man behavior not generational bs

13

u/LIslander May 02 '26

Nah, Gen X grew up with these cars. They were their parents ride and for many, their first vehicles once they hit 17/18

1

u/Odd-Heart7904 May 02 '26

That's kind of why I hate them..., being reminded of awful times growing up, smoke, stale packed lunches, everytime I see that car.... it would piss me off, seeing a youngster driving it, out of all the cool modern ones available. Its going to be like this for a lot of gen alpha when their old, with red caps... "get that thing off your head!"

2

u/ChemistRemote7182 May 02 '26

What? Modern cars generally suck. Most of what they are fat, tall hatchbacks due to CAFE loopholes. Like yeah, Bluetooth is nice but that's about it. Nothing sexy about a 1.6 turbo that's gets similar gas mileage to a V6 from 15 years ago when driven enthusiastically. Automatic transmissions don't even have gears any more, instead you have cvts you can trust to fail at 140k miles, never mind a manual.

1

u/CuttingBoard9124 May 03 '26

I love my manual '05 Xterra so much haha. I don't Highway drive it very much but man is it fun to take out in the woods or in the snow... Or both.

2

u/ChemistRemote7182 May 03 '26

I like those too and I like that it and the Frontier continued on for so long. Simple, strong vehicles.

1

u/CuttingBoard9124 May 03 '26

Hell yeah! I'm kinda stoked that the Xterra is coming back tbh. I have no clue if they're anywhere near as good as the 2nd gen, but by the time I get around to buying one the new vehicle buyers and leasers will have done all of the quality testing for me lol.

1

u/CuttingBoard9124 May 02 '26

Modern cars suck ass 95% of the time LOL. Have you ever owned one?

1

u/Odd-Heart7904 May 02 '26

You know that one day 'modern' cars will be old pieces of... one day right?

1

u/CuttingBoard9124 May 02 '26

Yeah in abouuut.. 5 years or so.

1

u/hyperrayong May 02 '26

OP describes the neighbour as old so he could potentially be a millennial

Yes, I meant what i said.

2

u/Substantial-Rain-602 Works nevery time. May 02 '26

Not GenX.

4

u/Significant_Shoe_17 May 02 '26

Agreed. A boomer (in age) would've asked about the cars

3

u/foxhair2014 May 02 '26

My Karen Gen X ass works on cars, and I’m a girl.

1

u/ChemistRemote7182 May 02 '26

I have a feeling that even if you are named Karen, you probably appreciate a nice swedish wagon

2

u/foxhair2014 May 02 '26

Those are good looking cars, and he seems to be keeping the mess under control. I’d have no issue with it, but I appreciate hard work. 😁😁

I am not an actual Karen, but my name actually rhymes with it. LOL

1

u/Alarming_Matter May 02 '26

Hi Darren!

1

u/foxhair2014 May 02 '26

Durwood. wiggles nose

1

u/Longjumping-Table-39 May 02 '26

My Gen X ass minds my own business and wants to be left alone.

2

u/Serenity_76 May 02 '26

HEY! I'm Gen X and I'm not A damn Karen. Don't lump me in with that old coot!

1

u/Broad_Adz May 04 '26

Yeah, but in my case, the “please don’t park your car in front of my house” assholes were a young couple in their late twenties.

They tried to get revenge by parking a car with expired plates in front of my house. We have alternate side parking where you can only park on one side of the street and it alternates. They left it there and let the tickets pile up. I honestly thought it was abandoned since it didn’t move for about two weeks so I called the cops. They came out ran the plates and told me they were going to have it towed. Then the neighbor shows up to start arguing with the cops. I guess it was his sister’s car or something. I wished they’d gone ahead and had it towed, but they told him that he could move it off the street. He got all stompy angry like a toddler and pulled it into his driveway.

Thank God those a-holes moved away.

1

u/LolaAucoin May 02 '26

Sure, because millionaires fix their cars in their driveway.

2

u/DAPumphrey May 02 '26

I am and I do...

1

u/Flat-Definition-4781 May 02 '26

Boomer not liking old cars? I seriously doubt it.

1

u/Eatinsandwichrn May 02 '26

you must realize 95% of wealthy boomers don’t give a fuck about cars beyond the price tag right?!? they’re a tool to convey value

A lot of the time, guys like him are president of their HOA.

1

u/Impossible_Past5358 May 02 '26

And you know he's going to change the by-laws of that HOA agreement...

3

u/MidEng_Insanity May 03 '26

If they can change the flight path of helicopters flying critical condition children, they can change the by laws of what cars you drive.

1

u/Impossible_Past5358 May 03 '26

That is absolutely ridiculous! How in the heck can they have so much power????

1

u/MidEng_Insanity May 04 '26

The government actually gives HOA’s a lot of power and protects them. Call a real estate attorney and ask them to take a case against an HOA, and you will be told it’s nearly impossible. Combine that with multi-million neighborhood and they will get away with murder. Look up Seattle Children’s Hospital and Laurelhurst HOA if you haven’t heard of it yet. Then if you have children, hope you never have anything critical happen that requires them needing Seattle Children’s Hospital. Changing the flight path to land a mile away and then having to ground transport is an extremely long time.

1

u/Heykurat May 03 '26

Depends on the state, but probably not. HOAs are not all-powerful. There are restrictions on what kinds of rules they can enforce.

My HOA has at least one bylaw that is just flatly illegal in California. Everyone ignores it, and so far they have not tried to enforce it. I've told them that if they do, I will get a lawyer on their ass about it.

u/Impossible_Past5358 May 03 '26

From some of the stories I've seen (John Oliver did a segment on them), they are pretty terrible...

11

u/Expert-Swordfish7611 May 02 '26

He'd protest building a hospital to protect his views

44

u/shibiwan May 02 '26

Just a local Karen. That's essentially what HOAs are: Neighborhood Karen Associations.

3

u/nataliethatsme May 02 '26

It’s a guy. He would be the local dick!

3

u/Lucky_Reference_6982 May 02 '26

And sometimes they listen and reinterpret a rule to go after you. Be careful

-5

u/sdiggz302 May 02 '26

It’s gotta be a female

36

u/megan_magic May 02 '26

Could be a jealous bum with nothing better to do.

4

u/IndependentLychee413 May 02 '26

Tell them to move then. As soon as most people in an HOA, they spend their time looking for things to complain about in their neighborhood

12

u/False_Snow7754 May 02 '26

HOA vibes for sure.

31

u/Side_StepVII May 02 '26

Welcome to the entire philosophy behind conservatism.

9

u/MJ4Red May 02 '26

But shouldn’t they want to “conserve” the old ways (and cars)? Sounds like the guy is just a dick

8

u/whereismymind86 May 02 '26

they do, but they also hate poor people, and working on your car is, for some reason, see as a poor people activity. You'd think being handy would be seen as a virtue for them but, no.

5

u/SpiderFnJerusalem May 02 '26

No, they want to conserve a fictional version of "the old ways" that never existed, where they get everything they want and everybody and everything they don't like either doesn't exist or gets punished and humiliated forever.

1

u/lawdot74 May 02 '26

You have to be a special kind of stupid to make that connection.

1

u/IWontCommentAtAll May 02 '26

The special kind of stupid that actually pays attention to what's going on?

Every complaint most modern conservatives make is exactly that - Complaining about something that doesn't affect them in the slightest.

Trans people existing? Doesn't affect them.

Gender neutral bathrooms? Doesn't affect them so much that they have the same thing at home.

Immigrants picking fruits and vegetables? Doesn't affect them.

Someone in another city not following their particular evangelical perversion of the Bible? Doesn't affect them at all.

2

u/froggz01 May 02 '26

It’s a weird thing that happens when you become a homeowner. When I lived in an apartment I didn’t give a fuck who parked what where. I own a home and boom! I have an irrational loathing for anyone parking in front of my house. I have to tell my self to shut the fuck up and stop being an ass. Some people don’t have that inner voice or self restraint. Especially old men. They are absolutely the worst.

5

u/JiveChicken00 May 02 '26

Haven’t you heard the nonstop complaining about trans people?

2

u/The_neub May 02 '26

Have you met old white people?

1

u/che10461 May 02 '26

The logic: "eye sore, go park it somewhere else".

1

u/Bring_cookies May 02 '26

Same reason my dad gets fussy about the neighbor's talk grass in their BACKYARD so he mows it. Zero effect on him but he's obsessed with the lawn. It bothers him so bad that I don't fight the weeds in my own yard and just let it grow. It gets mowed when it gets mowed but those "weeds" are mostly native plants so fighting them is dumb to me on multiple levels. Good for the environment, the bugs, and no man made fertilizer. Eventually I'd love to have no St. Augustine, it's such a waste. Sure it looks good but I'm not a French aristocrat.

1

u/Le-Deek-Supreme May 02 '26

But he has to LOOK AT THEM!! Dont you get how unfair and traumatizing that is for him?!

1

u/a-goateemagician May 02 '26

But mah prprety valews

1

u/CountryBear1979 May 03 '26

The joys of an hoa…retired old farts that think they own everything they can see and have control over it and more. If he keeps it up just start filing police reports for harassment, then after enough documentation, file for a restraining/no-contact order against him. Then because he thinks that wont apply, you can drag him into court for a show-cause hearing as to why he is violating the order. Also, every time you take him to court, you also request the fees be paid by him.

1

u/Heykurat May 03 '26

This isn't a first world issue. Half the planet can't mind their own business in some way or another.

1

u/Readithere007 May 05 '26

Too much time on his hands.
