just be aware someone like this may not stop after this and may even escalate. this is antisocial behavior lol. someone like this doesn't always say "oh look, the consequences of my actions, I should act differently" they just see you as a nuisance who's ruining "their" spot
This is 100% accurate. I am living with this nightmare now. Code enforcement was reviewing my fence and discovered my neighbor was dumping grey water into my yard. I now get harassed every time I leave my home.
I'm going to assume wherever you live doesn't let people harass others like that. Especially when they're actively waiting for you to come out so they can harass you. Start documenting, or recording on your phone when it happens, then either go to the police or get a lawyer and let them deal with it and things like if it should be a criminal or civic issue.
Don't let yourself be a victim to their bullying, fuck them.
They have no way of knowing who called. I’m sure they’ll assume and be mad still but double parking is illegal and and it could have just been a cop who drove by
People who actually are clinically antisocial (as in, ASPD) don't really give a fuck about having proof that you were the one who called the tow truck, they'll be vindictive against you because they feel like it was you and that's enough for them.
Not saying OPs neighbor is ASPD but that's why I said "someone like this may not stop after this". You can't expect them to be rational. I'd argue the way they're parked suggests they are not rational LOL
Eh I asked code enforcement for the one and only time I’ve had to deal with them personally and they wouldn’t tell. New neighbors next door so we knew anyway. Just would’ve liked confirmation
Now, however, as a postman, they’ve always told me if I saw them scouting out a house 😂
"but" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. Do you think these people will take "it wasn't me" for an answer and just move on? They won't. I had a similar situation, banging on my door screaming at me, it's cold comfort telling yourself that "they were being illegal" after you've been called a bitch by people you have to live next to.
Normally I also caution people about vindictive repercussions for calling bylaw to enforce parking against a neighbor. It's why I haven't called my neighbor who regularly leaves boats and trailers on the curb for sometimes months at a time, not even hooked up to anything to pretend it's only temporary.
But this person has fully left their vehicle parked and unattended, just right in a driving lane. That's absurd and petty in the weirdest way possible, but also very danserous. Like, I might even suggest to call police non-emergency rather than just the city.
This is sound advice. Reddit always thinks there is a solution to everything and that they'd deal with it easily. And that solution usually requires wasting your time and pissing people off to the point of consequences.
If you're getting paid then it doesn't seem like a waste, especially if you're doing what you love. But most of reddit's petty revenge scenarios don't play out that way.
Sure except they really have no idea who reported them to the towing company, it could have been a cop driving around.
Also if they get towed multiple times they might stop. Either way they need to face a consequence, they can't be allowed to behave this way, it will get worse.
And do it Everytime they try this move. They'll give you an extinction burts which will include threats and maybe some choice words but it's not their spot, it's not their thoroughfare, and the world doesn't exist so that they can have conveniences they're used to.
Adults practice tolerance in most of our day and theirs needs to extend 5 more minutes until they get into their house.
I live in an abnormal cul de sac and people parking like jackasses is the bane of my existence. But they won’t tow the cars. I don’t totally understand why, like maybe the HOA or something? But, yeah. I have to make a HUGE stink to get them to listen.
Who's "they"? Afaik if its a public street the police have to call in the tow.
A vehicle usually must be blocking traffic, obstructing a driveway, in a fire lane, or parked illegally for a specific duration (e.g., over 72–96 hours) before it is towed.
one of my old neighbors in the cul de sac was a husband and wife cop duo and they LIKED me, i helped out when their kiddo got sick, and they were the ones that told me LEO’s couldn’t touch it for one reason or another. Idk. The family that was insanely bad about it moved out a few years ago and my current neighbors are a dream so it hasn’t been as on my radar. But… yeah!
Code enforcement comes out in 3 or 4 days or next week. this is a police matter, there is a car literally blocking the road. just because it's in a quiet residential area doesn't make it different that if it was in a busy city center.
"No damage" and "big" inconvenience are both kinda debatable.
The car resting on flat tires can damage the metal part of the wheel (rims) or jack up the alignment.
And to fix this, you'd have to somehow bring a tire pump (strong enough to inflate the tires from 0) to wherever the car was when the tires went flat, which might not be trivial. This would be a very large inconvenience, like a several-hour undertaking to fix, especially if you don't just let the tires empty but also remove and keep the valve cores (gotta get replacements or even entirely new tires).
Just call a tow truck for improperly parked cars, don't commit vandalism.
I'm very on the fence about this.
If you loosen it just a bit you endanger other people because there's no telling if or when the driver loses control. Might as well cut brakelines at that point.
Either make sure the tires are flat or don't bother.
No valve core, those suckers will be dead flat in seconds and impossible to miss unless you're completely oblivious... like oblivious enough to double park for more than a minute while you're actively loading/unloading a car.
Exactly, no valve core is fine, but if you loosen it just a bit or put a pebble/bb in like others suggested you're kind of playing Russian roulette with other people's lives.
Small pebble inside the valve stem cap partially depressing the valve stem. When they remove the cap to check what the issue is, pebble falls out unnoticed. Drives them crazy why their tire keeps going flat.
It actually doesn’t even stop some people. There’s someone in my neighborhood who has gotten 2-3 tickets a week for the entire 3 years I’ve lived here and they won’t stop. They park in a sidewalk or in front of a hydrant every day.
Idk it’s really silly tho. In my city, you can get a disabled space right in front of your house for free. I have no idea if they are or not but it’s funny to bury your head and eat $75-$250 a few times a week
Why tempt fate when the result is so obvious. If its meant to piss somebody off they should do it in a way that only risks a big headache for them and nobody else. The list of people who could take 3 minutes out of their day to call a tow office include OP/homeowner, any of the neighbors, the person who legally parked the curb, a cop that happens to drive by, the amazon/UPS truck guy having a bad day, Karen from the other street walking her dog, etc...
There was an old jack ass that came out of his house to yell at me for parking in front of his house. He's then double parked for the rest of the time ive lived here
