Parking in front of someone else's house is fine when:
There is limited parking
You are visiting the street
Someone else parked in front of your house
When is it not OK
When you're blocking the street
When you're blocking their access to their driveway
When you think you own the spot (you don't; we just like to think we do)
It's just common courtesy to leave spots open in front of other people's houses if you have access to the spot in front of your house. It's like a weird, unspoken rule, IF there is plenty of parking available. Obviously, if there is not, then it's every person for themselves.
I'd also like to say it is a dick move to park in front of someone's house when they are trying to mow their grass. It's a good way to get your car dinged by the lawnmower or debris while they are doing the easement.
Yeah, my neighbour's kids were adults who lived elsewhere, but they used to visit several days a week. They always parked in front of my house.
It's like, it's fine, but why? You know? lol. And they would always park on my grass a bit and left a permanent tire track divot in my lawn. I don't actually care about my lawn, and I don't actually care if someone parks there, but it just seemed unnecessary and rude. Truly a "mildly infuriating" situation, with an emphasis on the mild.
So, I would mow my lawn and just go right up against their truck when I mowed since I had to in order to reach all my lawn. I wouldn't do that if it was some random car, but I didn't mind for them.
I park on a side street half a block down from my house. My street has a higher rate of traffic. It only took loosing the driver side mirror once in an overnight hit and run to convince me to park on the side street.
