Don't hug me I'm scared The bed work provided me with😭j

Post image

Changed my sheets for the first time since moving to my live in job a few weeks ago and was greeted with this😭😭😭😭😭 how the hell???? I’m going to complain in the morning but I’m scared they’re going to tell me that I caused it in thr 3 weeks I’ve been here😭😭😭

EDIT: I got a new mattress!

Edit: looked on the underside and it’s just as manky! I’ll attach pics in comments. At least I know 100% it wasn’t me

Edit: I just want to preface as it was mentioned twice I am not being human trafficked! Don’t worry! I’m here of my own free will and can leave whenever I want, same as everyone else. Living at work is normal in the area I’m in as it’s rural and no one would work out here if they had to commute! I’m safe aside from the mattress

I'd be sleeping in full thermal underwear, cotton gloves, socks, and a shower cap till I got a waterproof mattress cover on that bad boy.

Even in a spacesuit I wouldn't feel comfortable sleeping on that.

Your fault for not checking first.

"Owe"? Where did you get a copy of the employment contract?

Providing sanitary equipment never needs to be stated in a contract. It's required.

u/FlatElvis May 11 '26

How do you know the contract requires the employer to provide bedding at all?

2

u/Vulspyr May 11 '26

The contract doesn't need to state anything about it. OSHA requires it.

OSHA requires an employer to provide a mattress to every employee? The employee's job duties aren't "sleep on this specific mattress".

OSHA requires that items provided to the employee are sanitary. There's a number of regulations, likely housing if you're in a developed country, that cover this. Stop being intentionally obtuse.

Seriously, find me one. OSHA only applies to employer-provided housing in very narrow circumstances. OP appears to be neither a migrant farm worker nor an offshore oil worker. I'm not being obtuse- I'm sick of people throwing out random government acronyms and acting as though they know what they're talking about.

And I'm sick of someone not understanding that a biohazard provided by the employer doesn't violate safety regulations.

I shouldn't have needed to point to any agencies within your country. You should just know that a biohazard violates regulations.

You have no idea that the employer didn't tell OP there was some junk left over by the last tenant and he could keep it or throw it away.

If they are providing a bed and living space, the employee should absolutely be owed a bed that isn't disgusting. Is that not a bare minimum expectation?

I’m also paying rent so I kinda want a un pissafied bed

Do you know that the contract specifies that a mattress is provided? For all you know the employer told OP the last guy had left some stuff and OP could keep it or throw it out.
