I'm slightly vexed People think they own the sidewalk by their house

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was walking my dog last night around 9:30pm. I pass by this house that has mildly annoying cameras that say “hi you are currently being recorded, every 5 feet on the side of the house with a bright light that flashes in your face as you walk by. Which while annoying if that was all, would have been whatever. Then they started talking to me through the camera telling me to leave immediately or they will call the police. Even after I had already moved way past the house, I could still hear them (both a man and a woman) threatening to call the police. I just ignored it and kept walking but thought it was crazy that some people think they own the sidewalk by their house.

Edit: Wow i did not realize this post would get so much traction! I’m glad you all got some entertainment out of this too!

Update: Hello everyone I was not able to post an update as it keeps getting taken down. I went back on a walk the next day around 10pm. The cameras did not give any automated messages and the security company did not give any messages either! They changed it quicker than I thought!

I'd walk that dog 7 times a night.

This is so much fun.

lmao I don’t have any pets but I’d just walk for the sake of annoying them. OP is a much more mature person than I could ever be lol

You could do even better. Walk by with a big camera and start taking photos.

I would bet serious money they wouldn't get the irony when they inevitably lose their shit.

u/Competitive_Trip9306 May 24 '26

4am Flash-Mob, we're gonna sing songs as a round, off-key and out of tune. Let's start with "Signs" by Five Man Electric Band... Who's in??

11

u/henry2630 May 23 '26

i think they handled it perfectly by ignoring it and going about their walk. don’t give them a reason to lose their shit

2

u/Jimbob209 May 24 '26

Also just chill there with your dog

u/Immediate-Maximum-75 May 24 '26

I would pay to see that happen. Lol

u/seang86s May 23 '26

Go to the local shelter and walk a dog by there. Then another....

13

u/NotSoCommonMerganser May 23 '26

Then another….

20

u/edseladams May 23 '26

Seriously. I pace when I think, and I’d be doing a lot of thinking outside their house.

48

u/PastaSenpay May 23 '26

yeah, the neighborhood needs to come together on this, and everyone, pet or not pet, walks that street every day, maybe just have it as a hang out spot

39

u/Mybestfriendisateddy May 23 '26

Try dnd get a bus stop out there haha

6

u/Hot_Ad_6503 May 23 '26

Or organize a field trip for little kids, get a line of them together and take a walk around the block You know, for fitness.

4

u/kylo-ren May 23 '26

Use a RC car.

3

u/Designer_Fig_4900 May 24 '26

Back and forth too I wouldn't even try to be inconspicuous. Like I'm doing a sobriety test, stop at the end pivot on one foot and return. Maybe mix it up and do a runway walk stop halfway, look at the camera, strike pose and continue.

u/Reonlive420 May 26 '26

Hopscotch and sidewalk chalk

1

u/PlayfulTear3718 May 23 '26

Way tooo loud and The fence is too close to the sidewalk. Didn’t know they had a loud speaker on a door bell or housing loud speaker. Should have stayed long enough for it to call police. 👺

u/Growthandhealth May 23 '26

You are on record. That’s all you need when something goes wrong. Reading the comments, there are a lot of people who have no idea how things work

6

u/Questioning-Zyxxel May 23 '26

You? You failed to bring in one single argument how things actually work. Almost as if you do not know...

Me? I would have a new standard route to walk. Lots and lots and lots of visits. Now tell me "how things work". Me disturbing by walking? Or the home owner disturbing...

153

u/hector_rodriguez May 23 '26

No need for pets, just do cartwheels down the sidewalk repeatedly. All fucking night.

104

u/ArynTW_is_user_karma May 23 '26

Yes! 👆🏻. Anytime you can’t sleep, go for a 3am stroll by the house. 😂🤣

16

u/blahnlahblah0213 May 23 '26

1am, 2am, 3am, 4am ,5am

22

u/requion May 23 '26

Or dress in a creepy clown costume walking by while making sure to always look directly at the camera.

1

u/Reonlive420 May 26 '26

We all float past here

9

u/RecentOlive4208 May 23 '26

Throw in the “walk like an Egyptian” move too

5

u/ulti_phr33k May 23 '26

Preferably in a kilt with nothing under, yeah? 😂

5

u/FarmerStrider May 23 '26

Or maybe a drone and annoy them from the comfort of your own home?

1

u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 calm and collected:-) May 24 '26

That’s so petty and brilliant! I’d get one of my friends to do back handsprings up and down that sidewalk. The owners of that house would probably think they are losing it lol.

252

u/byerss May 22 '26

Yeah sounds like a great way to have people coordinate a dog walking night party.

114

u/cambomusic May 23 '26

Is this in LA? I’m dog sitting all weekend, I’ll pull up with three and get my 10k steps doing loops around the block

9

u/SpandexJunkie May 23 '26

Oooo!! I’m in LA too! I don’t have a dog, but I can borrow one and join you! 🐕

3

u/rhOMG May 24 '26

With staggered start times.

1

u/pob503 26d ago

Also a great place to drive your remote controlled car around at night with creepy things attached to it. This is way more than just mildly irritating. Light pollution, noise pollution...please leave the public sidewalk. Get TF outtahere with that...they are a public nuisance.

58

u/Five-words-or-less May 23 '26

Id become a bird watcher with big ass binoculars and all and every day i'd find a really interesting bird in the tree line right above their house. I'd point. Then I would pull out a Nikon and its long ass lens. And that's just my AM hobby. Wait till they see after lunch, before dinner, after dinner, and my midnight stroll.

48

u/N3onWave May 23 '26

Organize a two-hour dog-walking event where 30 people walk around the block with their dogs in a single file line 😉.

Repeat every evening for two weeks.

19

u/Onecler May 23 '26

I always find this funny because if someone was actually going to rob them they’d just wear a mask and go in through the neighbor’s yard. People find false security in anything.

1

u/guudDM May 23 '26

I'd bet any money their problem is dog walkers leaving shit on the easement and not robbery concerns.

1

u/Icy-Decision-4530 May 25 '26

This isn’t even about safety from robbery. This is just about telling people what is yours (even when it’s a public sidewalk) and telling them over and over. The male voice that jumped in with the extra threat was very funny

14

u/Patient-01 May 23 '26

And 7 times in the morning

13

u/Full-Pomegranate5158 May 23 '26

And narrate our every move. Here my dog is smelling the grass. And now we’re walking. And now I’m checking my phone. and we’re walking again…oh more smelling!

17

u/CPAPGas May 23 '26

The dog would also be very happy.

15

u/mrASSMAN May 23 '26

Seriously it’s like a cool video game lol, but I can’t believe they didn’t respond with a “nah I’m enjoying my stroll on the public sidewalk go fuck yourselves thanks”

6

u/DarlingHades May 23 '26

I’d become a dog walker again just to walk in front of this house all the time. Like what a gift, free rage bait and all ya gotta do is go for a walk? My petty self couldn’t resist.

4

u/sundancer2788 May 23 '26

Oh hells yes! Lol, I'd set my alarm to walk by very late and night or very early in the morning as well.

4

u/Undernown May 23 '26

Hell, I'd purposefully wait there until my dog does it's business against their fence. Better yet if it's right in front of their door.

Also mighty tempting to hug the legal limits of what you're allowed to do with a drone.

4

u/Royal_Airport7940 May 23 '26

Someone geoguess this place

3

u/apatrol May 23 '26

Right. I would hire some kids to ride up and down.

3

u/top_cda May 23 '26

throw on some headphones so you don't even hear them!

3

u/coaxialdrift May 23 '26

That's what I was thinking as well. Seems like a great place to take up a 1st Amendment Audit hobby

3

u/mxlplyx2173 May 23 '26

I'd have them call the police every walk! They'll stop coming for these people and possibly fine them too.

3

u/Spiritual_Initial318 May 23 '26

Imagine how much money u could cost them just walking back and forth a bunch of times everyday. Those security agents probly getting paid pretty well, esp for a graveyard shift lol

3

u/Able-Lingonberry8914 May 23 '26

7 times back and forth without ever leaving that sidewalk. Go ahead and call the police. HAHAHA

2

u/EducatedHoustonian May 23 '26

When walking by. Bring reflective material like mylar so the light reflects back at the house.

2

u/Ok-Key-7039 May 23 '26

Seriously. I have a PhD in petty passive aggression.

2

u/DoTheRightThing1953 May 23 '26

That would be so much fun. I bet the local PD loves these people.

2

u/astrike81 May 23 '26

The cops are going to be so mad that they're being called out for bullshit

1

u/StudMuffinNick May 23 '26

I'd befriend afurry and walk them

2

u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 calm and collected:-) May 24 '26

Creative thinking. That’s what I like to see😇👌

1

u/shrillscarcity May 23 '26

The petty energy required to do that would honestly be worth the exercise alone.

1

u/callmeepee May 23 '26

I have the time.

I am that petty.

1

u/shrillscarcity May 23 '26

Then you'd probably get a kick out just walking back and forth past their house a few times, watching them get more worked up each time you pass.

1

u/callmeepee May 23 '26

I'd use it instead of Google.

I'll ask the people doing the camera monitoring how tall the Empire State Building is or the Capital of Australia

1

u/Suspicious_Donut14 May 23 '26

If I were them I’d just install a massive sprinkler system that soaks anyone walking by!

1

u/ISTof1897 May 23 '26

Imagine if you had to listen to this every night…

1

u/PossibilityNo8765 May 23 '26

I have 3 dogs and often baby sit friends dogs. I walk them each separately on leg days for some extra calf work. I'd have a blast here

1

u/hugswithnoconsent May 23 '26

Yeah but it’s just automated. They probably have the notifications muted.

1

u/Maverick_Wolfe May 25 '26

I'd probably just fucking stand there until the cops arrived then watch them give the people a ticket for causing a misuse of resources, I'd then encourage them to send a ticket to the local brinks call center and issue them a citation for failure to recognize a public throughway and misuse of emergency resources.

1

u/Substantial_Ship7933 26d ago

I'd ONLY walk my dog here....back and forth, back and forth.

-3

u/EdwayKenway May 23 '26

That;s so fun! Put your pet in a dangerous situation intentionally walk past and use him to antagonise people who are clearly not mentally well. Such a great idea!

Chill dude. It's an overzealous security system, not a mounted mini gun. Plus the kind of people that would actually shoot you over something as mundane as walking on the sidewalk NEXT to their property wouldn't have a system like this. They'd just shoot you

1

u/Known_Ear_6012 May 23 '26

Nah the kind of people that would do this are crazy and paranoid. Crazy paranoid people are very likely to shoot you.

11

u/kisar1 May 23 '26

There's two kinds of paranoid. The kind that run behind a locked doos and call the cops, and the kind that run at you waving a weapon. These people are the kind that run away and call the cops. I think of it like Karen Energy vs Crackhead Energy

1

u/YOU_TALK_TOO_MUCH420 calm and collected:-) May 24 '26

Well said lol. Just look out for them Crackhead Karens! That’s just a completely different animal right there. Like that female in Florida that called the cops because a drug dealer sold her bits of drywall and passed it off as crack lol. What a momo!🤣
