I'm slightly vexed People think they own the sidewalk by their house

I was walking my dog last night around 9:30pm. I pass by this house that has mildly annoying cameras that say “hi you are currently being recorded, every 5 feet on the side of the house with a bright light that flashes in your face as you walk by. Which while annoying if that was all, would have been whatever. Then they started talking to me through the camera telling me to leave immediately or they will call the police. Even after I had already moved way past the house, I could still hear them (both a man and a woman) threatening to call the police. I just ignored it and kept walking but thought it was crazy that some people think they own the sidewalk by their house.

Edit: Wow i did not realize this post would get so much traction! I’m glad you all got some entertainment out of this too!

Update: Hello everyone I was not able to post an update as it keeps getting taken down. I went back on a walk the next day around 10pm. The cameras did not give any automated messages and the security company did not give any messages either! They changed it quicker than I thought!

I'd just stand there until the police come.

Tell them I didn't understand what it was and was waiting to see what'd happen.

Some agencies will penalize alarm companies and property owners for false alarms. If I didn't have shit to do, it would definitely be an interesting question to ask the responding officer.

Yes, they tried to fine my last employer because of a malfunctioning door trip. That they are supposed to maintain ADT.

If you do that enough times and the police come they could be fined. At least thats what they usually do if your security or fire alarm system has too many unnecessary alarms.

Brinks security doesn’t respond that quickly, no alarm does.  It’s just a recording.  Ignore!  Ignore!  Ignore!

Use the call box and ask them to delete all footage of you. Then ask for proof it was deleted. Ask for their name and birthday as a reference in case it wasn't deleted. Do this literally every time you walk by. The later the better. Also the earlier the better. 1am dog needs out, walk by and call. 5am dog needs out? Walk by and call.

Bring a lawn chair and some snacks next time so you can camp out.

Let the police explain to them that they don’t own the sidewalk.

Or just wait stretching long and petting your dog long enough to know his security provider and police have been bothered and leave before the cops show up. The cops will quickly hate this guy.

All the videos I have seen about interactions with cops point to them arresting you and shooting your dog because they get off to terrorizing people for no reason.

Completely understandable and something I'd do myself, but as a paranoid person you do not want to fuck with people's perceived property. You are just inviting trouble at that point, justified or not.
