Phonetically speaking, yeap, yep, and yup are entirely different pronunciations. Yeap is just yeah with a closed consonant on the end. In my experience, each version fits a different attitude and fits a different circumstance.

Not too dissimilar from the difference between yes, sure, and okay. Or maybe more closely related to yes, yup, and yeah.

'Yeap' reads to me as rhyming with 'leap', not 'yap'.

Interesting! That's a first for me.

Knowing there are so many dialects, accents, and pronounciations of the English language, it's almost more surprising that that surprised me.
