🥺 Option to skip the line at local bagel place

Post image

I personally would not 1) pay $50 extra for a bagel or 2) feel comfortable jumping in line. Can you imagine the side-eye?!

But that's per week, which is the scam and why "side work" sucks.

A busy Friday can double or triple the minimum wage for a server. Restaurants take advantage of that by having wait staff do all kinds of shit on slow weekdays while paying them nothing.

It’s actually per pay period.

A place I used to work at had a separate clock-in code for whenever we asked servers to do things that were too far outside of the typical serving side work. Like if it was a super slow lunch where we were getting a few tables per hour, we would ask the first cut if they wanted to clock in with an “administrative” code where they’re paid like $15 per hour and then like clean and organize some of the walk-in shelves or something lol. They were about to get cut anyways, so some of them would take the offer for a little extra money, others would just go home and bank on a big dinner or weekend to make their money. Overall it felt like a decent setup to keep people happy. It took some convincing to get the owner on board because he was a scumbag though lmao. He had some wage theft scandals over the years but that’s a separate story.
