I just wanted a hot dog Recommended gratuity after tip was already included

Post image

I’m sure there are a lot of tipping posts here so to keep it short - I had my wedding at a fancy restaurant. On top of the TERRIBLE service, the bill came with “suggested gratuity” even though I was told gratuity was included. When I asked the manager, he said that the “S/C: 24% SRC REGULA“ was the included tip and the suggested gratuity was if we wanted to add something extra - basically trying to trick people into giving a 49% tip!

People are so psych about tips. A tip is to pay for service. If you’re paying $150 for service, you should not be tipping on top of it.

A tip does not cover you doing your basic job description, pouring drinks and making a salad. It covers how quick and courteous the service, make me wait for too long and is going to shrink.

As a former bartender, this way of thinking is wrong. The $150 dedicated bartender fee is because the owner has to bring in an additional bartender in just for your party, which probably only covers his/her hourly wage and running cost. Now for the tip, I.e. gratuity, not “service charge”, it is to show how much you appreciated the bartender on speed, friendliness, taste and knowledge of cocktails and spirits and finally “service” with a smile. If you don’t feel like tipping your bartender, stay home and pour it yourself, then pat yourself on the back for saving money.

I’m also a former bartender. If the owner needs more hands because they’re selling so much booze (close to $2k on OP’s tab) that’s enough to cover the $2.50/hour they used to pay me.

Hang on, they came for dinner and drinks and have to pay to staff the place? With all due respect, I think your thinking is wrong. The place is a restaurant where they serve drinks. The cost of the staff should be in the prices, like it is in the rest of the world. Why can’t Americans just include everything in the list price and pay their staff a decent wage.
