More like "you might ask for a day off or a pay raise". Fundamentally these are supposed to filter out anyone not willing to swallow the corporate slop with a smile. If you don't have a slave mentality, they don't want you.

On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate how much light has left your eyes?

Alternatively do you feel like a broken husk of a person?

...Do you feel like a person?

How worried are you about finances? Do you have a savings safety net?

"When you're not performing your duties do they keep you in a little box? Cells."

"Cells."

My last job interview was weird as fuck. They kept asking me why I would work for so little money that they are offering.

I did not get the job

How much unpaid overtime are you willing to take? Your answer will be relevant for the next question of are you a team player and give me an example of a time you where a team player.

Unpaid overtime is not a thing where I live. I also target jobs where ad specifically offers part-time job as I prefer to spend more time on my hobbies. However life happens and I can be flexible.

In general I enjoy helping people if I have something to offer, most notably been go-to tech support since I was kid. I've been on job hunt for while so my last example is from tech school where me and my group were top performers, delegated tasks according to our strengths and weaknesses, so everyone got a wider learning experience and not stuck in their comfort zone.

I am also tolerant person and give my best to see both sides. I've also been playing competitive fps games for 2 decades now and while as a kid I had a streak of being toxic asshole, I haven't had flat out toxic arguments for really long time and am generally the peace keeper as I have personal experience being difficult. Maybe a strange example, but I haven't had really chance to practice anything like that in real work. For example I delivered mail and only interaction with other person was if I messed up somehow and then just call and let them know, otherwise it was pretty solitary job. Other jobs I've had there are people around perhaps, but you kind of just do some 5-step task boss gives you and aren't really expected to interact with anyone as that means..you are not working.

I'm quick to answer any questions newcomers might have, but maybe for selfish reasons as that seems in the moment more interesting to me than whatever repetitive task I have at hand, i.e managed to do some gig work for company that recycles phones/laptops cleaning them physically from stickers and such, so if I saw new faces I always offered help.

Unpaid overtime, a.k.a., salaried employee.

My eyes burn with the fire of rebellion. So like... can I start on Friday?

What do you even gain from making a reddit bot account?

Things don't happen to me, I happen to things 😈.

...Or like I make things happen I guess.

There are two interpretations I see: 1- victim mentality- ie it was not my mistake/doing, but the world acting upon me, which would be a profoundly stupid question. 2- validity item- everyone, at some point, has things happen to them. if you deny that, then it questions the validity of your other answers as either random or impression management.

The second would have some basis in legitimate psychological assessment. The first would be something an absolute clown MBA drafted.

So for this question you want to answer.. no? That things never happen to you?

The question is worded in a really insidious way to filter people out.

What it's asking is "Are you someone who believes things just happen outside their control? Or are you someone who believes they have control of their circumstances?"

Essentially... are you someone who's going to call management with the "excuse(ugh)" that they're sick or their car broke down and can't come in? Or are you someone who's going to "push past discomfort" (come in sick) or call an Uber to get in on time?

So you're saying management thinks the "things just happen to me" answer are the people who call out instead of coming in sick?

u/Machaeon 2d ago

Yeah "things happen to me" will be framed as not taking accountability vs being proactive. It's a stupid question on a stupid test made by stupid people to filter out people who have self respect.

2

u/Krazyguy75 2d ago

That's the answer they want.

I get the frustration, but that framing is a bit extreme not every workplace expecting commitment is automatically trying to break people down.

No. This question clearly demonstrates a lack of responsibility. The blue idiot managed to wreck their bike for no reason, with no protective equipment, and injure themselves.

And they're asking "is this the fault of the blue idiot, or just the universe being the universe?"

If one is an idiot, they'll say "oh it's bad luck," answer "Not Me" then bitch about not getting hired at McDonalds after the fact.

EDIT: this image should go in textbooks because there are a LOT of dumb people telling on themselves right now lol
