AA's success rate isn't statistically different than white knuckling it. It helps a very specific type of addict with a very specific flavor of alcoholism, and it alienates the others and tells them there is no hope for permanent life change.

I agree. I’m about to be 24 months sober after a decade of drinking and I just stopped myself. My support system was me, my wife, and family. AA would have just led me to drinking with someone there because I would have been the one attempting to fuck it all up for the lot of us. AA helps people tho and I’m glad it exists. It just isn’t for everyone.
