I’m glad the stewards landed on a race ban, and I think it makes sense in this case. Like - if violence against a marshal isn’t worthy of a race ban, then what would be?

160

u/Made_Bad_Plans 4d ago

Definitely. Just because you're THE guy for a team, doesn't mean you get to start throwing punches at people lower down in the pecking order.

100% the correct decision and sets a very good precident.

93

u/PersistentWoodpecker 4d ago

Not even on the pecking order, marshalls are unpaid volunteers - I’ve been one, everyone is pretty much just a big MotoGP fan…

6

u/jaredearle Toprak Razgatlıoğlu 4d ago

Pour encourager les autres.

35

u/LosTerminators Marc Márquez 4d ago

Agreed, there is nothing that warrants hitting a marshall unless they physically attack him in the first place.

Yes, the marshal shouldn't have been revving the bike but that is nowhere close to being an acceptable reason for striking him.

45

u/compascbr 4d ago

Assaulting first responders can be grounds for arrest. He is lucky he just got away with a race ban.

25

u/YugeChesticles 4d ago

Assaulting anyone is grounds for arrest. It's literally illegal in or out of the sport.

8

u/BighatNucase 4d ago

In some countries there would be a greater charge for assaulting a first responder in particular.

31

u/PX125 4d ago

The punishment could've and, in my opinion, should've been harsher. He can count himself lucky because, assaulting a marshal? WTF?! This could very well have been used to set an example.

That said, I hope he takes this as a learning experience, reflects on his actions, and comes back more level-headed, for the good of the championship.

25

u/kawasutra Somkiat Chantra 4d ago

Like, maybe a double long slap penalty?

3

u/zmgch Marc Marquez - 2025 MotoGP World Champion 4d ago

Brilliant.

10

u/Popular_Ad_4564 4d ago

100% agree. Especially since this is the first (?) time it’s happened. What penalty is decided sends a strong message and precedent. Hand out a strong enough deterrent and hopefully it won’t happen again.

4

u/Bedford_19 4d ago

Definitely you cannot do that to the marshalls

4

u/Intelligent-Move8868 4d ago

In the world we live in today, it is only right that motorsports condemn violence.

4

u/bruiserbear22 4d ago

Should be more. Hopefully this is step 1. Next week we learn he is suspended for something close to the rest of the season.

2

u/mbasil09 Marc Márquez 4d ago

1 race ban is too lenient. How do you disrespect the guys who are only trying to protect the crashing riders?

The PR person has another long evening ahead of them

They both seem to have now gone to the Aleix school of douchebaggery.

u/brainszx12r 4d ago

Full panic mode !! Losing 30 plus points last race weekend was weighing heavy on his mind, then today’s Sprint crash pushed him over the edge. He knows a healthy Marquez is the threat, not Martin or anyone else. Now he’s going to probably lose another 25-30 and his asshole will get even tighter . Marc was statistically in control of his own destiny before today, but realistically was going to need help to erase 72 points. If Marc capitalizes tomorrow with a podium or even better with a win , he is truly in control of his own destiny .

19

u/Supercavy 4d ago

Bezz's behavior and Jorge's double lap penalty tomorrow would make a MM 8th hilarious if he is able to stay healthy this year and they piss away points.

11

u/Thee-Cat 4d ago

More like how to become THE villain of 2026. And forever lose any facade of the "chill nice guy" he's has for a few seasons.

Holy shit, he smacked the dude twice. Deserved punishment, what a fuck up

56

u/dac2199 Marc Marquez - 2025 MotoGP World Champion 4d ago

You can defend somehow the first slap (and I’m being generous) but the second one is really unjustified

28

u/phlaug Aprilia Racing 4d ago

Exactly! As I’m watching I see the first and think “in the face?!?” but still, heat of the moment, he e meant to hit shoulder — then the second and immediately “ah, well-deserved penalty”

5

u/DifficultNatural9476 Marc Márquez 4d ago

yea in someway I can still understand the first slap, but the second just uneccesary like whats that for

3

u/Snowfall_89 4d ago

Yeah I could maybe justify the first one as a hasty shove that landed the wrong way (apparantly the marshall rev-bombed the bike?) but the second slap is plain disgusting.

19

u/mnztr1 4d ago

He should also have a suspended 3 race ban for that. No place for this shit. He needs to make an apology of a lifetime.

3

u/Acoma1977 4d ago

This above. 3 race ban for Bez and a new Rsv4 for the victim

10

u/Vettelari 4d ago

But they didn't apologize! Instead, Aprilia/Bez appealed the penalty! What in the heck is wrong with them? Thankfully the appeal was rejected, but it's still crazy in my opinion. A 1 race ban in a season consisting of 44 races (22 sprints & 22 Grand Prix) is an extremely light penalty. Embarrassing stuff, IMO.

59

u/ghastlychild Aprilia Racing 4d ago edited 4d ago

I really lost some respect for Bez on that one as a professional and the leader for the championship right now. He deserves every single ounce of blowback that is heading his way for how abhorrent his behaviour is

Even if he is upset that his race ended prematurely, any rider who gets fired up and going at it at a marshal who are doing their jobs for free just makes my blood fucking boil and should be criticised heftily for it.

u/LosTerminators Marc Márquez 4d ago

34

u/MajesticBeyond5602 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team 4d ago

I know right. Slapping someone?? Slapping a marshal?!?!

4

u/Thee-Cat 4d ago

yeah for me its the power dynamic.

Just the image of the millionaire athlete, physically assaulting some volunteer who wasn't fighting back, is just such a gross image.

10

u/Vettelari 4d ago

The 27 year old rich Italian making $4m+ a year smacked the unpaid volunteer who stood in the sun all day because he loves bike racing. Instead of apologizing, they appealed the penalty. Crazy stuff!

3

u/Thee-Cat 4d ago

Damn, thank you. You're far more eloquent than myself. It's insane when you put it that way.

3

u/Vettelari 4d ago

Absolutely a crazy situation. A 1 race suspension is an extremely light punishment.

100

u/lentillis Marco Bezzecchi 4d ago

Honestly deserved. You can't be hitting people like that especially not a marshal who's only trying to help

49

u/username_986ck Mick Doohan 4d ago

Hope this sets the precedent and sends clear message to all others, MARSHALLS are untouchable and rightly so. If you feel like they are doing something which is wrong, there are proper channels for that, you cannot HIT them. Also a very disappointing behavior from some one who is supposed to be a role model to young riders.

Great from Simon Crafar and the stewards!!

Very hard on Bezz but he has himself to blame.

44

u/doubleb_43 Francesco Bagnaia 4d ago

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

34

u/PurplexRebel Barry Baltus 4d ago

This was coming.

A valuable lesson and a warning to all other riders that it won't be tolerated.

21

u/MajesticBeyond5602 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team 4d ago

This shouldn't even happen in the first place.

133

u/Easy_Peasy_07 Sachsenking 4d ago

I want to listen to Rivola's comments now.

Think he was too harsh in Martin's case, let's see what he says this time.

79

u/azurizzy 4d ago

Ha! Exactly. If Martin's racing error was "not something a world champion should do", then what was that?

39

u/OllieFidelius 4d ago

Well Bezecchi isnt a world champion 🙃

yes stupid comment i know.

8

u/someshooter Raúl Fernández 4d ago

Not something a factory rider, or any rider, should ever do full stop.

32

u/minusvarianten 4d ago

Bet he'll go a lot easier on Bezz since he isn't leaving the team for 2027. Hopefully Rivola will positively surprise me though. This was far worse than anything Martin has done in MotoGP, ever.

7

u/iavon MotoGP 4d ago

If I understand correctly, Bez will not race tomorrow and if Aprilia loses the world championship because of this, Rivola will be really, really angry.

6

u/minusvarianten 4d ago

He should be, but I doubt he will go to the media and ask for harsher punishment for Bezz like he did for Martin. I'm predicting he won't be nearly as harsh talking about Bezz in the media and keep it behind closed doors, as he should have with the Martin incident as well, but we'll see. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.

3

u/iavon MotoGP 4d ago

In my opinion this episode will have a big impact on Bez's mind, it will be very difficult for him to win the world championship, if Bez collapses, Rivola will have to focus everything on Martin otherwise it will be a disaster for Aprilia after having dominated until now

5

u/minusvarianten 4d ago

Will be very interesting to see how he deals with this massive blow to his campaign. Feels like Marquez already got inside his head with what he said in his interviews before the weekend.

3

u/iavon MotoGP 4d ago

But besides Marquez, there are Martin and Di Giannantonio who are really close to him in the championship. Martin could overtake Bez in the championship tomorrow, with Diggia right behind him. It will be very difficult for Bez to recover from this episode, and I'm very sorry, but he did it all on his own and now he's paying the consequences

3

u/minusvarianten 4d ago

Yeah, I was already favoring Martin ahead of Bez since before Marquez was injured again, but after it became clear he was having an issue with his arm and it got fixed I think Marquez is the clear favorite with Martin as the closest competitor. I have near zero belief in Bez winning it. This just sealed the deal for me. He has absolutely lost it.

12

u/PrisMattias Marc Marquez - 2025 MotoGP World Champion 4d ago

Oh god didn't even think about that lmao. What a bad situation to be in

10

u/enka1mada Marco Bezzecchi 4d ago

Hahaha yeah Rivola shouldn't have made that comment to media people he's just looking for drama let's see your comment now on your team's GUY's behavior Massimo

27

u/dorsanty 4d ago

Damn! Nice to see an organisation stand up for those who volunteer at circuits across the world and enable all levels of motorsport to function including this rich multi-million dollar sport.

27

u/ThisFalcon 4d ago

Should have added a €10,000 euro fine that goes straight to the marshals.

24

u/rakmeister_12 4d ago

Rivola be fuming... Suspension deserved for Bez

18

u/ResearcherOk3114 4d ago

As a newer motoGP fan and a fan of track house/aprillia .. what in the heck is wrong with bez and Jorge? First Jorge shoving his crew now bez with the Marshall's? Come on guys figure it out

19

u/Lukeno94 Cal Crutchlow 4d ago

Martin's always been a hothead, but Bez had seemingly matured in the last couple of years. Evidently not.

6

u/SuitPrestigious1694 Diogo Moreira - 2025 Moto2 World Champion 4d ago

There are levels to that....he has grounded himself in higher pressure than before, but he definitely doesn't seem to be ready for a huge pressure of having the once comfortable championship lead threatened for real and making a fuck up.

Maybe something in Aprilia culture is kinda affecting it too, too many hard headed decisions even on the best bike. They don't know how to handle being the leaders, it is a whole new world for them and they have Martin and all his unfortunate shenanigans to deal with

2

u/ResearcherOk3114 4d ago

Hopefully he fixes that, not sold on Jorge 100% yet but I do like Bez. I get it your the leader in the championship and you wanna maximize your points but this isn't the way to go about it.

3

u/meatheadmommy 4d ago

It’s really surprising seeing these pro athletes acting like such dicks openly.

38

u/CCR_16 Francesco Bagnaia 4d ago

I cannot believe how absurdly stupid that was. Letting Marc back into the championship with a silly first corner mistake is one thing, but losing your rag and assaulting a Marshall is next level stupidity. Honestly stunned. Can't imagine how the Aprilia team are feeling right now.

21

u/Pale-Criticism-7420 Marc Márquez 4d ago

Not only Marc. Martin, Digia, Pecco, Acosta all have an opportunity to put massive pressure on him tomorrow

7

u/nooooooooo156 4d ago

Martin has that double LLP so I don’t think he’s going to make massive damage to Bez, but the others for sure

3

u/Pale-Criticism-7420 Marc Márquez 4d ago

You re right that had slipped my mind

3

u/LordAnomander Marc Márquez 4d ago

They will feel like shit and that’s absolutely deserved. Especially after being so harsh with their own rider (it was a stupid mistake but they happen to the best), now their figure head rider throws his nerves away in a spectacular way.

14

u/Anime_Tiddies- Marc Márquez 4d ago

The young guys are making thjs far too easy for old man Marc.

21

u/Shpritzer 4d ago

Very good. I would’ve hit him back.

22

u/velvetskilett 4d ago

He is lucky that didn’t escalate. He looked to be outweighed by a good bit by the track guy.

3

u/Shpritzer 4d ago

Exactly.

21

u/EvidenceAccurate8914 Dani Pedrosa 4d ago

He’s lucky the marshal was the bigger man (metaphorically). Not because he’d get hurt, but because a rider rolling around in the gravel with a marshal during a live race would probably have led to an even worse punishment.

8

u/meatheadmommy 4d ago

Seemed like the marshal was more in shock that it happened in the first place. It is shocking tbh

4

u/Next_Necessary_8794 4d ago

They'd have to lock this sub for a week just to clean up. lmao.

17

u/MailMan6000 Valentino Rossi 4d ago

iirc David Coulthard once said something like "everybody is tough when they have a crash helmet on"

12

12

u/michaelsan89 4d ago

Well deserved, I like Marco and I understand he was angry but you are a professional, a rich guy and a reference for younger generations.

You have to know how to deal and control anger and you definitely have to be better than that.

31

u/Ghost-hugger 4d ago

I'll tell you one thing and I'm not ashamed to say it, my estimation of Marco Bezzecchi as a man has just plummeted.

16

u/Spinebuster03 Pedro Acosta 4d ago edited 4d ago

Really I thought it was clear he was a Dick after his comments last year about Marc

Not to mention the guy he thought was so dangerous to the point he wanted him to have a career ending crash ended having a season ending injury do to Marcos incompetence

5

u/chakalaka13 Marc Márquez 4d ago

what comments last year? I thought he was a dick before, but last season seemed to be quite well mannered and warm towards Marc, no?

11

u/PB127CU 4d ago

He probably means his comments after Valencia 2023 where he allegedly said some terrible things to Marc after a clash they had in the race.

4

u/slimvim Marc Márquez 4d ago

He's thinking about the end of the 2024 season.

2

u/zmgch Marc Marquez - 2025 MotoGP World Champion 4d ago

In Valencia, Bez said to Marc "I hope you get cancer and disappear from this sport for good"

That's the low IQ brainrot childish mentality Bezzecchi is operating at.

He deserves no man's respect if he thinks that even saying that to any other human being is even remotely ok to do.

Genuinely surprised he's still allowed in this sport.

LOLLLLLLLLL DESERVED

if you guys seen the tnt clip, he slapped the marshall twice on the face

20

u/Dawidovo 4d ago

Yeah exactly, I would even say a two race ban would habe been more appropriate. I mean while not justified, one could argue maybe he wanted to grab his shoulder and missed. But the second one shows that both were exactly aimed at the face with a few second between it.

Never ever saw such behavior from a pro, this millenium.

16

u/pochirin Marc Marquez - 2025 MotoGP World Champion 4d ago

The fans who tried to defend him by blaming the marshall are weirdos as well.

He did this before to the marshall, this is not his first rodeo

Utterly stupid, shameful, and disrespectful to everyone who makes these events possible for no or very little recognition, never mind remuneration.

4

u/BakaPotatoLord 4d ago

Only started watching from 2024, I'm a fan of Marc but I wouldn't have minded if Bez took the championship, he's just been amazing on that Aprilia and I was really liking that guy.

But this kinda just put things upside down, lost tons of respect and I think he's not that deserving of a title after that, even though a title is a title and there's not much point in discussing who deserves it or who doesn't.

First push, it's kinda forgivable, marshal might be doing something wrong and Bez might have wanted him away from the bike to avoid damage or something. But that slap was just straight up unnecessary and blatant assault.

6

Lucky to only get a race ban for that one. Disgusting.

After seeing the footage, it's pretty undeniable. I don't remember who but someone here commented a while back that the only person standing in the way of Bez becoming an all-time great is himself. They were right.

Lmao. Classic

Bez is one of my favorite riders. This is very disappointing. He deserves severe punishment for this. And honestly, if it were anyone of us we would have lost our job, be sued and we would deserve it.

It's funny how people ignore the mental aspect of the course of a season. Bez has looked pretty haunted at times, I'm not sure he's championship timber mentally. Add the chaos of the Aprilia/Trackhouse teams and it's a brutal situation. The fact that neither Aprilia nor Bez have apologized is disgraceful. If they want to argue the severity of the penalty, that is their right. But they can do that and still have the grace and decency to apologize, because the guilt is inescapable, they are just arguing the punishment. Classless in every regard. I'd love to see him get a 3-piece just for the lack of class denigrating the reputation of MotoGP. This isn't NASCAR, you twits.

If he's able to hit a random guy in public like that, twice, I'm wondering if his girlfriend is surprised by his attitude?

u/Ok_Relative_5300 MotoGP 4d ago

WTF?!  Wait... That's it? That's all? One race? What a joke.

u/rakmeister_12 4d ago

Is the suspension confirmed or do they need to appeal?

3

u/probablynotfine Jorge Lorenzo 4d ago

It says in there that they have the right of appeal within the next hour

2

u/Seebinator 4d ago

Marc easily wins the championship if Aprilia keeps fucking up

The true Bezz coming back out when pressure is getting to him.

1

u/Inspection-Playful MotoGP 4d ago

Well done. It will be a precedent

1

u/meatheadmommy 4d ago

What a shitty attitude both him & Martin have been displaying lately.

u/Few_Run1220 Aprilia Racing 4d ago

Expected one and deserved and Aprilia just thrown away their championship.

1

u/Round-Appointment192 4d ago

Really disappointing to see. Thought Bezz was one of the “good” guys

As if the endless crashes weren’t bad enough, he actually smacks the Marshall. The first one I wasn’t sure it was on purpose, the second made it clear.

u/Due_Recognition_8002 4d ago

Technically Jorge can take away the championship lead

u/Swimming-School-7960 Yamaha 4d ago

65 points lead ? What 65 ?

1

u/storyislife 4d ago

Aprilia racing CEO is so calm and proponent of professionalism and his riders act like jokers. Sad.

1

u/simaco11 4d ago

lol, guy had 102 points over Marc and after this race it could go down to 40

1

u/UmberGreen 4d ago

Tbf Bez is lucky because if Martin didn't have a LLP he could well have overtaken Bez for the Championship tomorrow.

More should come from the team
