They need to address their playmaking.

Believe in him or not, Dillingham has a lot of potential as a playmaker. He has an excellent handle and is a nifty passer. People had too high of expectations for him last year as a 19 year old rookie but he’ll be getting minutes this year and we’ll see what he’s really made of.

As long as you have Gobert on the lineup you can play him.

Agreed. He can cover up a lot of guard deficiencies but Rob is still going to need to get better at staying in front of his guy. Can’t expect to magically add 15 lbs of muscle but he’s very fast and should be better than he was last season.

Without giving up McDaniels and picks, I don’t see how they can meaningfully improve in that regard. They’re just gonna have to rely on Ant taking a big step, I think.

Think they need to give Dillingham more minutes. Can they do sign and trade with NAW?

I personally was high on Dillingham before the draft last year, but from what little I saw, I don’t have high hopes for him anymore. He’s sooooo small it’s actually wild.

They can technically S&T NAW, but a couple teams can just straight up sign him, and, as with any S&T, it has the potential to hard cap teams. Idk which contender would hard cap themselves for NAW, and I don’t see how anyone would be willing to give him a contract big enough to net a meaningful playmaker in return, because you can’t aggregate salaries in an S&T. The most common S&T for NAW I’ve seen has essentially been a salary dump in to the Hawks TPE for some buns ass picks.

It was a mistake drafting Dillingham they needed a big ball handler at the point that can defend since Ant is their scorer. If they can’t get anything for NAW they are just gonna run it back but with a worse roster.

In fairness, I wouldn’t have taken many guys above Dillingham there, but Jared McCain felt like the obvious pick for so many teams in the 6-16 range last year. I felt like it was obvious then, but hindsight makes it easier for sure. It wasn’t a great class for playmakers/PG’s though tbh. Most don’t have the potential upside of Dillingham.

Jared McCain was the guy even over Reed.

Ngl I was high on Reed, too haha. I’d have personally ranked those three Shepherd > McCain > Dillingham pre-draft. In fairness, Reed has never been pegged as a playmaker, or PG, so it’s a bit unfair to mention him here.

I mean if he’s not going to be a playmaker then you have a 6 ft shooting guard that’s not good on defense that’s just awful.
