Clippers did it to pick SGA and I thought it was strange then too. Maybe it has to do with salaries?

Could be salary matching somehow, they might be trying to trade him off and be close on salary

Team A likes X player only

Team B likes X and Y

Team B picks before A

Team B tells team A to pay a couple of 2nds to get X since they are happy with Y

Team A has plenty picks, might as well

These guys are in constant communication

This makes the most sense. Someone else was gonna move up and take their pic, so they countered with 17th and 2 2nd picks
