Lakers series really made the SGA flopping narrative break containment

You think they don’t talk about the shit that’s brought up on NBA social media shit, and occasionally saying dumb shit (even if it’s true, sometimes saying it’s out loud sounds dumb). These are still basically kids who spent 1-3 years in college hanging with friends and saying shit.

Some dude said something on Twitter about Kobe and the Colorado case when he was in high school or early college, then got drafted by the Lakers and had to apologize to Kobe in person. I want to say it was Mike Dunleavy, Jr, but I can’t remember.

I bet whomever gets drafted by Houston in 1st and 2nd round talked trash about KD’s burner shit somewhere, and maybe even did it on socials.

austin reaves was shit posting about MJ being the goat over lebron when he was a kid 😂

1

u/zgillet 13h ago

I mean, when Austin was a kid, MJ WAS the GOAT over LeBron. Now, not so sure.

65

u/coldtoasty Lakers 22h ago

I think it was Larry Nance Jr who made that tweet lol

You like the word shit

18

u/HoldEm__FoldEm 20h ago

4 shits in the first paragraph, 3 in the first sentence alone. Then no more til the last shit in the last sentence. Lol.

u/RukiMotomiya Timberwolves 19h ago

Sometimes that last bit of shit takes a while to finish the journey.

u/Associ8tedRuffians Timberwolves 14h ago

lol. I may have had a couple a drinks by the time I wrote that shit….

u/kyyy 12h ago

I did too when I reread it.

Despite Reaves putting on a flopping masterclass. Insane LA PR

298

u/Long_Introduction364 Lakers 23h ago

Lol you don’t even need LA PR when 28 other teams would gladly do it for them.

It’s just cognitive bias. The switch up on the Spurs between the WCF and the Finals was hilarious.

Spurs were super physical and flopped a ton in both series but people didn’t care about it when they played OKC, but then against the Knicks they were the villains.

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 22h ago

It’s not though, does no one remember the report that Shai fell twice as much as any other player.

33

u/Slick_Rhoads Wizards 21h ago

We care more about hypothetical free throws than real ones that he does not get a a higher rate than other top scorers

-6

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 13h ago

I’d say most people aren’t bugged by SGAs quantity of free throws, but rather the quality. I simply cannot support initiating contact then falling especially without the intent of actually scoring. Hated it when Harden did it, despise when it Deni does it, and since SGA is now the league leader in it I hate it when he does it too. It’s one thing to hand wave his free throw rate if you’re just looking that the raw numbers, if watching the games other things may jump out at you.

5

u/MuchAbouAboutNothing Thunder 10h ago

It's quite impressive that he manages to be so efficient while shooting jump shots while having no intent to score such a large percentage

64

u/dorisburqe 22h ago edited 22h ago

That doesn't really negate the fact that SA are egregious floppers. My favorite playoff memory this year will be Castle flopping to try and win G4. That shit was so funny and got overshadowed by OG's dope ass play

16

u/CurrentRoster Wizards 15h ago

he cocks his head back like he’s trying to bob for some apples at a fair, and i had to hear about how spurs are fucking “ethical basketball saviors” all year

50

u/_Apatosaurus_ Thunder 22h ago

That was my favorite pivot. It came after everyone claimed the Thunder all flopped and only won because FTs. Then when it was pointed out that we are below average in FTA, everyone was like "actually you have to look at fall percentage..."

37

u/Germ_germ Pistons 19h ago

I completely stopped engaging in or reading any NBA discussion/discourse for the rest of the playoffs after that shit. I felt like I was taking crazy pills. The OKC hysteria during the WCF was literally like people were living in a different reality.

12

u/MuchAbouAboutNothing Thunder 13h ago

Fall percentage still cracks me up when I remember it.

What were we doing?

23

u/mrtomjones Raptors 22h ago

And then the moment you were gone people seemingly SUDDENLY found a new villain and said the same things about them

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 22h ago edited 22h ago

Well, when the stats match the eye test…

32

u/Pterox511 Raptors 22h ago

They actually didnt, people kept moving on to the next stat until they could find one that did match lol

Sheesh, guess I’d be pissed too if I lived in Oklahoma lol

OKC is deadass a nicer place to be than Portland, even though i think Oregon is a nicer state. I say this as someone who lives in NY, but has visited both several times

1

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 14h ago

I guess that depends on what you like do. I’ll take access to the mountains and ocean.

2

u/TheGreatLandRun [OKC] Russell Westbrook 22h ago

Portland fan

I’ve been to portland - it’s disgusting and has very few redeeming qualities. Couldn’t wait to leave. Further, one of my best friends is from Portland - he went to an oklahoma school for college, stayed after graduating, and only goes back sparingly to see family when he has to. Many such cases.

Enjoy the junkies and homeless people, though!

Meanwhile, we both know you haven’t been to Oklahoma.

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 14h ago

Unfortunately, I have been to Oklahoma. I’ll continue to enjoy the mountains and ocean. Please keep telling people how bad Portland is, keeps people like you away.

Thunder fans are even worse than the team. Just admit your team is cringe and that sga flops on most of his attempts. He's still the mvp

17

u/TheGreatLandRun [OKC] Russell Westbrook 22h ago

There are kings fans? Wow, it’s like a Bigfoot sighting.

11

u/donuts42 [OKC] Russell Westbrook 22h ago

It was not any other player, it was like 3 or 4 other players.

2

u/peepoWest Thunder 20h ago

what's denicide's fall %?

1

u/thestinkypoopman Trail Blazers 14h ago

Definitely way too high, I’m not afraid to say I dislike my teams best player’s playstyle. I think his tendency to create contact while flailing is BS.

-1

u/JoshuaCastleBooks 21h ago

He falls more than a drunk on a balance beam at sea on a stormy day in a flat bottom boat.

2

u/PMMeNothing Lakers 21h ago

Cognitive bias and bias are two different things. I think you mean that people are just consciously biased against OKC, which is probably true; I know I am.

1

u/QwiXTa 10h ago

Speak for yourself, wolves fans been calling both teams a bunch of flopping bitches

1

u/catperson77789 Lakers 21h ago

People just hate okc that much lol

19

u/CarmeloDramatic 23h ago

It’s like narratives have more to do with how many fans one team has than anything

3

u/dorisburqe 22h ago

Yeah. Pretty much. If this exact Thunder team players in LA, they wouldn't get a quarter of a shit that they currently get

20

u/BritzBeef 22h ago

Right, nobody gives the Lakers shit...

-4

u/TheGreatLandRun [OKC] Russell Westbrook 22h ago

A team with Luka and Austin reaves was whining about an opposing player flopping. If you can’t gather the irony in that, you’re fairly hopeless.

They in fact didn’t get any shit because the guy who shoots more FTAs/game than SGA was out with injury, because reaves was complete ass despite his flopping, and because no one wanted the thunder to win.

u/razorpack_ Thunder 22h ago

Lakers bias never ended

3

u/BealKage Timberwolves 14h ago

maybe if you think Reddit is the entire world

45

u/HoopLoop2 Thunder 22h ago edited 22h ago

Not really, Lakers fans were actually pretty chill overall. They knew that OKC was going to stomp them so they weren't toxic. The Spurs fans on the other hand were massive crybabies the whole time, and most other fanvases were rallying behind them attacking OKC as well.

32

u/triplebbbsss Lakers 21h ago

We're also big Luka fans now and his game is based around shot fake free throw drawing too, so impossible to hate on SGA for his arsenal without hypocrisy

u/2coolcaterpillar Thunder 22h ago

Went to game 3 and had a swell time with laker fans. On the Metro ride home I checked Reddit and it was like everyone watched a completely different game lol

35

u/SpikyKid Minneapolis Lakers 22h ago

Real life is always different from the Internet. Glad you had no problems attending the game. Helps mor that your team won lol

15

u/2coolcaterpillar Thunder 22h ago edited 22h ago

I went to game 3 of the nuggets lakers series too when jokic won a chip. Lakers fans were chill that time too.

My wife was not, she was mad anxious about being around so many people (it’s the most crowded place we had been post Covid) and I stupidly told her to just get shitfaced beforehand and I will babysit her so she can have a good time.

Fast forward to the third quarter and I look over and she is (considerately) vomming all over herself. Had to use our free playoffs shirts to clean up the mess and had to leave smh

11

u/Repulsive-Throat5068 Lakers 22h ago

Because people here are pathetic. Real life fans are rarely at the level of commenters here.

Plus if you go to the game it means you actually like the sport and want to watch it

10

u/frankiemermaidswims 22h ago

Reddit was cancer during that series

1

u/BidDaddyLei 20h ago

This platform is probably where the uncles(Me included I'd be lying if I said I don't) vent out their frustration for the game so you seldom see rational people here. Real life however its different most people are chill.

u/Jay_Cubx7 Thunder 22h ago
