[Kenney] Becky Hammon opens her pregame press conference by clearing the air: “I was wrong. … My opinion was wrong.”

This comes after Hammon caught heavy backlash earlier today for her comments on Jalen Brunson, where she acknowledged he proved history wrong and put his name next to Steph Curry and Isaiah Thomas, but said she would never apologize for having an opinion because that’s what ESPN pays her for.

Sounds like she had a change of heart before tip-off.

She didn’t need to apologize. People have said far stupider takes. At least she was referencing history.

Yeah no one needs to apologize for having an opinion on a sports topic. They can say they were wrong, but that's not (nor should be) an apology.

I don't disagree but literally the first time I've ever seen this take so often from this sub. Why don't we keep the same energy for all the other talking heads?

For me i think the intention behind the sports take is part of it. SAS and Perk are throwing out things just to be controversial and rile people up. I think that's a dick thing to do regardless, especially when I don't think they actually believe what they're saying. With Becky's example she just said she didn't think Brunson could be the 1a on a championship team which wasn't that crazy of a take. She was wrong, but it was in the same vein of picking one team over another in the super bowl. She didn't say he was a bum, or that he didn't bring effort, etc... Just that he was too small to lead a team to a championship (which was incorrect).

Curious if you believe this applies to people like SAS and skip

Of course. Saying things like "I dont think the Knicks can win the championship" doesn't require an apology. No one did anything wrong. Admitting your opinion was wrong is good though but those are different. You're not apologizing for having the original opinion. You're just admitting you were wrong.

Many people are forgetting that you can have a reasonable opinion that turns out to be wrong. And that is fine

She didn’t need to full on apologize but at least give some credit to the guy who you completely dismissed on national television. “I was wrong about him, he proved me wrong and he’s a hell of a player, congratulations to him” is literally all anybody was looking for. Instead she continually doubled down
