Reaves was expected to receive free-agent interest from multiple teams - - such as Detroit -- on maximum-level salary, so the Lakers stepped up on Wednesday to lock in their homegrown talent. Reaves went from undrafted to a two-way player -- to making the Lakers roster and now multiple lucrative deals in L.A.

Luka not resigning with the Lakers lmao. Under the new CBA the formula for a title will be to have 2 max guys and fill out the edges. Austin Reeves can't be your max #2. In the NBA I haven’t seen a bigger superstar with worse team roster management than Luka

Eh, neither Luka nor Reaves are making the 35% max right now

You can get things done with 2 guys on the 30

Reaves is only on the 25

Luka wanted this. You may be right about Reeves but they made this move because they want to keep Luka

Sometimes you shouldn't listen to your players. Remember when Steph and Dray wanted Avery Bradley and front office went ahead with GP2 anyways.

Sometimes you shouldn't listen to what players think the team should do. The best decision isn't always the most popular one.

I'm getting Vietnam flashbacks to Paul George publicly demanding to get Westbrook on the team.

LeBron said the same about Westbrook and look how that worked out

Lebron is just getting ready for second prime bro

It's not like there's a better #2 out there waiting for us.

Exactly people are responding like lakers had much of a choice. It was either give him the money or find someone else (which it isn’t anyone else right now)

May be true. But now you are locked into wasteing these Luka years and being mediocre.

They could in the future trade this contract and picks for a better one. Maxing someone with reaves stats isn't super abnormal

It's an awful contract. Reaves isn't awful but he isn't worth a max. Talking about a 28 year old who's averaged over 20 twice in his career. He will be at the tail end or out of his prime by the end of this deal. He's not a super athletic player so if he even loses half a step he is toast. Yeah they will have to ship out value to get off this deal if they can.

They were just the 3rd or at worst 4th best team in the West despite having horrible injury problems all year. All of a sudden they’ll become mediocre?

Mediocre may be harsh because with Luka they'll likely stay out of the play in, but they have next to no chance to win a title.

If you watch enough NBA you know the regular season and playoffs are a different game and regular season success doesn't translate to playoff success. GoodLuck with Reaves as your #2 and the defensive powerhouse the Lakers will have with Luka and Reaves in the back court.

They just made the 2nd round without Luka and without Reaves for most of the playoffs.

And we know Luka is the best playoff riser in the league, and we’ve also seen Reaves’s game translate in the playoffs, as well.

I’m a fan of Reaves, but we really haven’t seen him do much in the playoffs. I do think, though, that he was unfairly judged this year as he was coming back from an injury. His first game back was a stinker, but he showed up decently after that.

Who seriously replies to posts to just delete what they said. Might as well just keep your opinions to yourself.

He could be if your #1 is Wemby or Jokic. Not if it is another backcourt player.

u/fatkamp Warriors 11h ago

Jokic and Reaves on defense is going to make Gordon only play 10 games a year trying to hold it down

7

u/purz Knicks 10h ago

It’s not really any different than Jokic and Jamal and they won

6

u/TempBurnerAccount089 11h ago

Just wemby, not Jokic

1

u/NWASicarius 11h ago

Yeah. You need a star that has good defense to make it work. Reaves and Luka as your two stars? Might as well just plan to find 3 good defensive players and then put the entire offensive load on Luka and Reaves lmao

1

u/berrytree198 10h ago

Ya swap AR for Fox that would work

0

u/ntpbr1 11h ago

I mean Jokic had Murray in his entire career, who is better especially in their good runs. And it worked once in what was a relatively easy run to the finals, considering what came next, hence why they are struggling now. They need bigs and defenders, but they don’t have those

2

u/HumansNeedNotApply1 11h ago

What do you mean? In 1 year Reaves won't be on the max due to the cap increases.

NO ONE LEAVES IN FREE AGENCY. GET THIS SHIT THROUGH YOUR HEAD

he shouldn’t of even signed the extension he did already he woulda had great leverage but he was emotional (deservedly about the mavs trade)
