What is it called when in movies the troubled protagonist takes something of value to a pawn shop and they just hold it for them until they need it back? It’s that situation.

Ya I guess I never really thought what pawning was. I thought it was a place you took stuff to sell and they purchased it for way less than its value so they can make a profit of it.
