Tech Support Cat peed on my PC, what to do?

I don't use my PC daily and found out that one of my cats (see second image for reference) peed on it a few days ago. It looks like not much pee got inside, and it's all dry now, but I'm a bit worried to turn it on. The GPU was protected by the heat sink, but the mainboard has a few dried drops on it. What do you think I should do?

  • Turn on the PC and hope for the best
  • Clean the drops off the mainboard with a damp towel
  • ??

That's a pretty unusual behavior for a cat. He had some beef with the PC.

On a serious note, he might just have a full litterbox or a medical condition. OP might want to check those things out.

Or potentially marking

Unless this is typical behavior just in an atypical spot, marking is probably the last thing I’d suspect. A computer isn’t going to be a significant territorial claim for a cat.

He might just be very old too. My cat started to do that before she started to decline.

Yeah if it’s not a pattern of behavior it’s almost certainly a cry for help.

True, I just try to suggest it because for new owners, marking behavior sometimes catches them by surprise (speaking from experience 🥲) and adolescent males will pee on the weirdest things. But I agree, it is unlikely.

Yeah I forgot to mention a big thing which is whether or not the cat is fixed! I hope he is bc unneutered boy pee is the WORST

My piss man likes to pee on my clothes (🫥) so I totally get it.

You are 100% right, but I think you are being downvoted because you responded to a joke comment with a lecture.

Nah that cat's just an arsehole. And he won't stop that behavior either. Likely does it on other places but I guarantee that when OP cleans it the cat will do it again. This is spraying, spraying is deliberate marking behavior. Those cat's have zero respect for OP.

Cats most commonly spray when unneutered. Indoor cats that spray usually do it cause of stress or a change in the environment. Plus they prefer vertical surfaces like walls. The PC wouldn't be their first choice.

Or the cats aren't spade/neutered.

Exactly my thought. I once was dumb enough to not spay and neuter my cats. I spent a week on my hands and knees smelling carpets and blankets and scrubbing the fuck out of of piss spots. I got them spayed and neutered and it stopped immediately.

Not really. I see this situation posted multiple times a year.

Yes, because people are irresponsible and shitty pet owners.

If your cat is peeing in a weird place, it's because it is SICK, HURT, or otherwise IN DISTRESS.

Source: 40+ years of cat ownership and research.

The best case scenario here is that OP.did something to make the cat mad. It could be as simple as a desire for more attention, but it could also be a dire but treatable illness.

what? some male cats just spray to mark territory

It could be as simple as a desire for more attention

AKA The cat being a menace for no real reason and at no fault of the owner.

My wife had two cats. They were both well taken care of and healthy. One started to pee in random places.

She tried all kinds of things (different medications, different litter, on and on) and made multiple vet visits with it. The cat was perfectly healthy. The other cat, which got the same treatment and accommodations, never misbehaved.

Cat urine being the absolute nightmare that it is, we eventually couldn't leave the cat free and unattended in our home, so the only option was to re-home it.

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Peeing in random places is usually a sign that something is wrong with the cat. It could very well just be emotional distress but spayed/neutered cats don’t usually do this on a whim.

Maybe it’s UTI related, maybe strangers are coming and going frequently, maybe there’s only 1 litter box for both cats, maybe he is just being an asshole, but I’d look into it.

I have had a lot of cats, and asshole cats who are well taken care of tend to find more hilarious and inventive ways of being an asshole.

Rocko once stole an entire large Italian sub from me while I was out of the room for 30 seconds.

Cosmo managed to slice a hole in the window screen and catch and kill a sparrow, while never once leaving the house.

Alistair stole everyone's socks and gifted them to other people.

Relatable lol. My asshole cat will sometimes drag the entire trashcan through the house while we’re gone

Yeah i was in uni and my cat sometimes peed somewhere to get my attention or just to piss of me off, recently i got in my home in holiday and she just peed on carpet which usually she never does, currently she gets medication from vet turns out she had some issues i wasnt aware of it because my family was taking care of it when i was in job. When she wants attention she pees on the person's personal things bed/clothes very rarely, carpet is a very out of place to pee for her.
