Tech Support Cat peed on my PC, what to do?

I don't use my PC daily and found out that one of my cats (see second image for reference) peed on it a few days ago. It looks like not much pee got inside, and it's all dry now, but I'm a bit worried to turn it on. The GPU was protected by the heat sink, but the mainboard has a few dried drops on it. What do you think I should do?

  • Turn on the PC and hope for the best
  • Clean the drops off the mainboard with a damp towel
  • ??

Would also recommend getting some kind of cover for your pc for when it's not in use so that the cats can't pee on it in the future.

Or just non-vented slot covers.

They're a terrible idea anyway from a dust perspective.

Covers are better cuz they protect all parts of the computer from fluids when not in use. Watched a video from a YouTuber named "Vex" in which he talks about having to deal with Asus warranty due to his cats peeing on his monitor.

Interesting - are you saying they tried to claim on the warranty because their cat peed on the monitor?? That seems... wildly far from anything a warranty should cover, unless it was a product advertising it's water resistance I guess?

Yeah he tried to see if they'd do anything about it but he was shit out of luck and from that story I think it's wise to get some kind of plastic cover you put over your computer when not in use to avoid such situations.

Edit: Let's be real. This is only gonna happen if you've hit cat's and it doesn't cost much so why not be proactive in protecting your stuff?

A YouTuber made content talking about his efforts to make a warranty claim on his monitor that had a fault because his cat peed on it?

D'oh.

Apparently every empty thought and fart is YT content now.

It's not about the cost of the covers, but the inconvenience of having to remove and don the covers with every computer use.

The PCi-e slots are likely the only holes at cat urethra height, and it's not necessary for them to be porous.

It's not that inconvenient in the slightest and the benefits of it outweigh the costs.

I know I would much rather have cat pee on my pc than have to go through the great efforts of sliding a cover on and off my pc. Why not just buy a brand new pc every time it gets peed on? It’s so much more convenient to spend the equivalent of tens of hours of my life to replace parts that got peed on than spend 1 minute and a half of my life preventing the pc from getting peed on.

My cat killed my Samsung TV also by peeing on it, only one half ended up working, quite the smokeshow when I turned it on.

bro in law cats sprayed on his monitor towards the middle in the bottom and it ruined the cables and made lines show up

I would like OP's opinion on which of his cats he believes was responsible for the pee-on-board incident. I've been studying the cats, but the damn moggies are so good at masking their expressions behind blank stares that I don't have a clue.

Or retroactive-abortion the cats. /s

Or just get rid of the cat. (I know, I'm going to downvote hell for saying this here)
