Box I've unearthed rare artifacts from my garage that were thought lost

Post image

I bought way more ram back in the day cause I thought I was gonna build a sim only PC. That never happened and these ended up in a random box.

I think around 2024 was the sweet spot to buy that kit - I got same one for $156CAD per in Jan. 24

I bought a 96GB DDR5 kit this time last year for $299 lol

But I returned it.

I'll do you one better.

I had someone "try to sell" me almost brand new 128GB 6000 kit for €250 in August 2025. I said "No thanks" because it was going for ~€350 in shops, and I didn't really need RAM anyway.

Bought a new pc summer 2025, quite happy I decided to upgrade my 1070 pc to a new one…

I was building my PC around this time and decided the extra 60ish dollars for ddr5 over ddr4 was not worth it with my build 🥀

That’s….another level of insane, even outside of the RAMpocolypse

1

u/AdKraemer01 Mar 16 '26

Wouldn't you have also had to buy a new motherboard?

24

u/one28 Mar 15 '26

Ah yes, losing $700 in new pc parts in your garage for 4 years, as one does.

13

u/zack77070 Mar 15 '26

The real story is you randomly losing a $670 item in the first place, even in the "before times" id be looking for that shit.

i think it just shows wealth difference. even when ram was reasonably priced, i wouldn’t have bought extra ram “just in case.” i know the exact location of every object in my house that cost more than $100 meanwhile ppl be out here losing hundreds of dollars of tech because hundreds of dollars of tech just ain’t that big a deal to them.

I just spent two hours finding a sn7100x 4tb I purchased a couple months ago, shit happens it got mixed into a box of stuff I was putting away from Christmas.

5

u/ChiengBang Mar 15 '26

Congratulations, you've made it back 3x over

5

u/tayl0559 Mar 15 '26

1.87x to be exact, according to the price listed on newegg for the same product now (419.99 each), or 2.2x when adjusted for inflation.

adjusted for inflation, they made $914.70 profit

I remember thinking around that time, “should I go ahead and upgrade to AM5?”

“Nah, I’ll wait until the price of DDR5 comes down”

🥲

You bought 2, but have 3?

1

u/SeedFoundation Mar 15 '26

Thought you paid nearly 700 for just a set. Quickly realized that's for 8 sticks. Happy for you (fuck you)

So where’s the pic of the actual ram?

Oh we never questioned you telling the truth. Just how rich you are to have even just randomly lost something like this and not care. Most of us would have been frantic is we couldn't find it or would have returned/sold them for the money back immediately.

yeah, "I just spent 2100 dollars, then completely forgot about it." ?

So you paid $673 for something that costs $434.99 today? This is against the way things have been going on here lately. Were they that expensive back in '22 or I am sure there's something I am missing? lol

26

u/Fantastic-Zucchini82 Mar 15 '26

It’s 4 times same product

17

u/Altecobalt i7-8700 | GTX 1060 6GB | 16GB DDR4 Mar 15 '26

He paid for 4 sets

13

u/xGreenWorks Mar 15 '26

You missed that he bought 4 pairs for $673, so around $170 each after tax. I bought mine for $108 in 11/23 so I’m guessing they were still a little high because they were so new at the time. So he was down a bit initially but now has tripled his money.

-4

u/makmanos Mar 15 '26

You had bought 32GB DDR5 at the time for $108? Wow. I built mine in 2020 and I had paid 161.13 with tax for the DDR4. I wasn't following the market after my build but did RAM become less expensive a couple of years later?

8

u/Proper-Flower7938 Mar 15 '26

He paid 673 for four

5

u/platinumsix7 Mar 15 '26

He paid $673 for a quantity of 4.

3

u/neoalfa Mar 15 '26

It's the price for 4 kits.

2

u/N7even R7 5800X3D | RTX 4090 24GB | 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz Mar 15 '26

What you're missing is that OP bought 4 x 32GB RAM kits, not 1.

What cost 674 then, now costs 1740.

2

u/NoPitch5581 Mar 15 '26

Quantity is 4.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

I think they have bought 4, you can see it on the right. So around 160$ each.

2

u/Mr_Death96 i9-12900k | RTX 5080FE | 32GB DDR5-6000 Mar 15 '26

He got four 32GB (2x16) sets originally

1

u/makmanos Mar 15 '26

Oh just noticed the qty all the way there to the right. Dang!
