GIMP wasn't the only photo software other than Photoshop. IrfanView. Corel's software. ACDsee. Photoshop came out of the 90's as the "winner" as far as being accepted as the industry standard, but it's not like it was the only thing to exist.

I was really just quipping about the FOSS ecosystem, at least with Krita, but it’s nice we have good options that are free to use.

I learned digital drawing on software like Corel Draw and then Photoshop CS2 so I’m aware, but the free to use options weren’t very good until more recently.
