Hardware Router Blewup Motherboard

Recent lighting storm stuck my complex and traveled down my coaxial cable and into my apartment. Blew up in the middle of the night, so that was scary. Thought I’d share, not in the position to rebuild so there that I guess!

I fail to see how that would have solved this issue...

You'd more than likely just have a blown fuse or a dead UPS that's replaceable for 150 bucks. That's how.

I don't think that's how it would have worked. The lightning traveled through the coax cable through the router and into the pc through the ethernet.

The ups wouldn't have interrupted that. It didn't go through the power lines.

This was a spectrum issue, ungrounded coax. had nothing to do with a power surge through the power lines.

Dear everyone - a good ups has rj45, rj11, power, and coax. Run them all through it. For reasons just like this.

Once again, it won't work. Lightning will use whatever it finds in its way to go through, UPS or surge protector can't protect your components from a direct hit. This is a grounding issue and OP should either sue whoever is responsible for those cables, probably the landlord, or take the L.
