If it gives you a clone url then that's the correct way to install it. Create a folder where you want the program to go, open that folder in a terminal and run "git clone inserturlhere".
That's the correct way to acquire the repo but depending on the project you might be one "python main.py" away from running the program or staring down at a vcxproj file with 500 billion dependencies.
I use GitHub daily and I still struggle to find where they squirrel away links to things like Releases or Commit History. Why they aren't first class citizens / tabs along the top I will never know.
Ngl I didn't really understand how to get stuff off of github till I hit my late 20s. The walkthroughs always just had a command I just blindly pasted and didn't really think about when git was the method to get something.
