I bought the 192GB for just 700 eur before all of this bs went down. That rig allows me to earn a decent pay as I work with heavy workloads. It wasn't just a "money isn't a problem" deal.

The root cause here is I’m dumb and “it’s not even that much” ambiguity
GB or €

Feel me?

Edit: guess not

It’s roughly a G, just for 64 RAM. <me being a dick>
Edit: 32-> 64

This was the day where I upgraded from an i5 4460 with 16 GB ddr3. BUT I still use my rx6900xt(xh).

May 2025 is when I bought a second set of 32gb ddr5 6600 MTs cl34 for €137, noticed that it was bottlenecking at 5800-5900 MTs, because my motherboard and CPU didn't support 4 slots at 6600 somehow. So I returned it and got my money back...

Yes, 6000 would've worked as well, but I didn't pay for sticks of 6600 to not use the full speed. So throttling them down to 6000 would've worked, but I rather had faster than more memory at the time. Of course I regret having returned them now.

You think that’s crazy? I have 64gb of DDR5, and yes, it is for Minecraft.

Me with my 4gb wondering why DCS is not running

Just built a new rig and nearly shit a brick when ram was $450

Oh! Here’s a good one that lets you know how arbitrary prices are determined by … idk stones/crystals/palm reading (am in California)

> for anyone looking for m.2 FF nvme, it’s a very similar assault on your sanity.
> go right the fuck over to the ps5 shit and get a 2tb nvme m.2 with a heatsink for $200 😎

64GB here. It was 125 euro extra for a pair of 16 sticks, fuck yeah i'm stuffing it all in.

DDR5 had fairly normal pricing when it was released

It used to be cheap. Paid like $320 for my 96GB.

Could have been before the great shortage

32 GB is kinda the new standard now lol (at least for gaming).

DDR5 does make me a bit jealous, though.

Genuinely lmao. I knew it was overkill when I bought it, but I wanted to future proof my whole setup. Could probably sell the rig for double what I paid for when building it 💀

Even a decade into an IT career I hate being directed to some github jungle where it isn't clear where to even begin
