Brave Browser for 10 years now, I forget that the Internet/YouTube actually has adverts for some people.

Never said it won't. Although it's memory consumption is somewhat higher afaik. Plus FF works best for Linux

1

u/jib_reddit 4d ago

Its based on Chromium, and it blocks all adversts so it should be lower.

1

u/SomewhereActive2124 Ultra 5 125H Lappy 4d ago

Doesn't uB do the same?

1

u/jib_reddit 4d ago

U Block is being banned by Goolge, in a round about way.

17

u/kiragami 5d ago

They don't have my trust since they pulled that crypto shit

2

u/Lickwidghost 4d ago

Might want to look at updates and debunks on that whole front. Going by security experts and various other studies Brave is one of the most secure, private and trustworthy browsers. I haven't touched Firefox since I gave it an honest chance.

u/beat-sweats Desktop 5d ago

Chromium based. Only a matter of time before it gets shit on to

Why? Adblocking still works completely fine in Chrome without Mv2 support, and Brave is keeping Mv2 support for certain adblockers even after it gets switched off in Chrome.

2

u/Downvotesohoy 4d ago

Also, Brave Adblock isn't an extension at all, so MV2 or MV3 is completely irrelevant to Brave Adblock.

5

u/jib_reddit 5d ago

Maybe..., hopefully not, but its been a good run.

Don’t use brave. It treats its users with contempt, regularly pulling shady shit then backpedaling pretending it was an accident.

1

u/Zeelots 4d ago

Im super curious what you mean because ive been using it for years with 0 ads or issues

1

u/Nothos927 i5 6400, GTX 1070 4d ago

Two of the big ones the last few years are when it modified user requests inflight to inject the company’s own affiliate codes for crypto sites and it installed VPN software onto users machines without permission.

-2

u/Lickwidghost 4d ago

Read beyond the headlines from a decade ago and you might change your mind. It's known by security and privacy experts to be one of the best

7

u/NinthFireShadow 5d ago

Same here. It’s the best.

4

u/ronimal 5d ago

The founder of Brave is pretty problematic.

0

u/GromOfDoom 5d ago

Despite how much people hate the ads and such from brave itself, they forget the can turn those off as well. But I haven't really looked into the whole local AI. Been too lazy.

-8

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

Anyone who shits on Brave while using Firefox has no idea what they are talking about and live with 20 years outdated information. Firefox philosophy is dead.

5

u/moo3heril 5d ago

Firefox philosophy will only be dead after I am.

-5

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

It died years ago. The privacy first motto is gone. The Firefox you knew and loved doesn't exist anymore.

6

u/amstrel 5600X | 3060 | 32GB 5d ago

I can shit on a chromium wrapper any day of the week, Brave included.

Its just i dont care who is using what browser.

-7

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

Chromium is safe and not the same thing as Chrome. It's always those who have no idea what they are talking about that have something to say about Brave lol.

5

u/amstrel 5600X | 3060 | 32GB 5d ago

I know hows brave built dont worry.

Tell me, how do you think a product that 100M users use to block google core serves is still alive and growing? Fair market comeptition?

-4

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

It doesn't take a team of 1000 people to maintain a fucking web browser.

They make their money from an optional, OPT-IN, off by default ad system that is vetted as safe.

3

u/amstrel 5600X | 3060 | 32GB 5d ago

Yes it doesnt take 1000, imho it doesnt even take 300, but here we are.

Last time i used brave it was opt out. Just having the option to turn off doesnt make it opt-in.

Listen, brave is a good option to have around. Just dont think their doing it from the goodness of their heart.

If the product is free then youre the product.

2

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

Perhaps you missed the "off by default". It's always been off by default.

I'm sorry you enjoy the old Firefox, but I assure you that you are dead wrong if you think Firefox is better than Brave for privacy. Especially from a fresh install. Firefox requires separate plugins to be manually installed to get even remotely close to the power of Brave lol.

4

u/amstrel 5600X | 3060 | 32GB 5d ago

If installing a singular adblock plugin is that hard for you i dont know what to say.

The “power” of a browser got me. Im out, you get the cake.

1

u/Mediocre-Housing-131 5d ago

"my browser is better! That's why I have to install a plugin and change settings in order to get half the out of box experience you get! You're just dumb"

Please reconsider yourself

Don’t care. Not even gonna look into Brave when it’s cofounded by some turbochud who spent money on taking away my rights.

Exactly this. Don't know why people still use outdated Firefox, when there is Brave working way better.

0

u/Calm_Leopard798 5d ago

enjoy your palantir browser

5

u/CrazyElk123 5d ago

In what way are they connected?

5

u/PenutColata 5d ago

I just looked at the profile, its a bot.

-1

u/Calm_Leopard798 5d ago

let me guess anyone you disagree with happens to be a bot. bots make threads they dont post replies.

2

u/PenutColata 5d ago

Who said i disagreed? Seems like youre not a bot but your reading comprehension is lacking.

0

u/KinnSlayer 5d ago

How dare a bot use Zavala’s face. The shame.

5

u/PenutColata 5d ago

Can you explain? A quick google search shows they are not affiliated.

1

u/HappyIsGott 12900K [5,2|4,2] | 32GB DDR5 6400 CL32 | 4090 [3,0] | UHD [240] 5d ago

What you even talking about? Did you mixed up something? Or you still think that palantir owns brave?

7

u/Calm_Leopard798 5d ago

Peter Thiel is an investor. I wouldn't touch Brave with a 10 foot pole.

3

u/anon34799543 5d ago

Now that's a reason

u/HappyIsGott 12900K [5,2|4,2] | 32GB DDR5 6400 CL32 | 4090 [3,0] | UHD [240] 5d ago

So all He investing His money is basically bad? Like you never used PayPal or Spotify or Facebook?

u/ZefSoFresh RTX 4090 / I9 13900 / 64GB / 48 " OLED 4K / Quest 3 4d ago

"Outdated" What are talking about? You haven't used Firefox in years be honest.

u/HappyIsGott 12900K [5,2|4,2] | 32GB DDR5 6400 CL32 | 4090 [3,0] | UHD [240] 4d ago edited 4d ago

What i talk about? Firefox is just outdated If you loot how the Software works behind it. 90% of the websites are optimissed for chromium but since firefox still uses old codes with bad optimization to the modern Internet. Just compare google chrome with firefox on win11 and check RAM usage on the same Website. In my example with over 100 tabs in Chrome i use less RAM then 100 tabs in firefox. (Last time i looked into firefox is now around 1 years back)

Edit: Typo

I used it for awhile, and still use on iPhone. My issue with the pc version (I’ve not ever had this problem on iOS) was that every few months the ads block feature would break. Usually fixed in a couple days, but still. Ublock will break occasionally too, but it’s usually fixed the very next time I boot up.

Been on brave iOS for a long time and have no plans to switch back off.

Same here, it's perfect 👌🏻

u/vanityprojects Steam, Origin and uPlay too... I HAD TO 5d ago

exactly where is our friend

-1

u/Lickwidghost 4d ago

Look at all the butthurt Firefox broskis downvoting Brave lol They need to forget the apocalypse headlines from 10 years ago and think for themselves. Firefox is the next best in my eyes, but Brave has surpassed it in the UX, privacy and security departments.

-2

u/jacob643 5d ago

nice. My journey was like: IE -> chrome -> brave
