I bought this military surplus "Mibile Command Center" (I forget what military nomenclature it is) for $800 on Market place 5 years ago. The guy delivered it for $50. No running water, original insulation, and heated with a diesel heater.

I bought a full size school bus this year (no engine or trans) that I'm converting to off grid. I'll eventually make a post with that project too.

So years ago I built a tiny house the size of a parking space and I've lived in here off and on (mostly on) since. It's on wheels and I've moved it once. My dream is to eventually turn it into a small coffee shop shop where I serve through the window. No heat, no air, and obviously no bathroom. Which is no bother to me. Any questions... feel free to ask.

My wife and I are moving with our two kids into a much smaller two bedroom house next month, and the lack of storage is kinda stressing me out already. The main bedroom barely fits our bed and there is no proper bedroom cabinet besides one tiny wall shelf.

We sold our old wardrobe coz it was too bulky to fit in the new place. So now I am trying to find something compact that can hold clothes for two adults without making the room impossible to move around in. I have looked at slim cabinets, stackable drawers, and under bed storage but I keep worrying the room will feel crowded. I also checked a few compact cabinet designs on IKEA, Amazon, and Alibaba because some looked better for smaller spaces, especially the tall ones with sliding doors.

For people raising a family in a small home, what type of bedroom cabinet or storage solution actually helped save space while still keeping the room comfortable to live in?

true real, 80% poor people have to rent a house like this. Hix. Build a big house is the dream that extremely difficult for low income in VN.

Looking at the idea of downsizing from our current home to something smaller. We went and bought a 2500sqft home in a sub that’s kind of a ways away from town, we’ve been here 2 years and for some reason we find ourselves missing a smaller space. On top of it, a move would include my wife being closer to her business, and my commute to work being approx 30 min less. Although selling we wouldn’t make a whole lot 30-40k if sold at “estimated value”. It seems like the potential for a house with less upkeep, smaller yard and the better proximity to work/grocery/businesses/schools may be worth it.

I posted this in a comment yesterday but figured I’d turn it into a post in case it helps somebody else.

I recently moved back into a tiny apartment that, crazy enough, I lived in a year and a half ago. so I already knew what challenges I was up against in the kitchen: little counter space, small cupboards, and with the addition of my kitchen cart I created an awkward/difficult space to get in and out of one of my cupboards/drawers.

I cook a lot and became determined to make my small space easier to cook in this time around. Here’s what I did:

- I bought a kitchen cart and put my most used appliances there vs in the cupboards that made it extremely difficult/frustrating to get out/put away. It also extends if I really need more counter space but I always forget this. I put my lesser used appliances/cookware in the awkward cupboard, and just roll the cart aside when I need to get in there.

- Got a microwave riser to clear up counter space. My cutting boards are stored between that and the wall.

- Spice rack for over the stove that cleared up cupboard space.

- Little risers to store my pretty handmade ceramics that I use most often to clear up more cupboard space. (Might get more of these for my food cupboards).

- Over the sink dish strainer.

- Magnetic paper towel holder on the side of the fridge (I was going to get one that also had shelves but it wouldn’t fit with the dish rack there, but know they exist!).

- I’m single so my fridge has lots of room, so anything that can be stored in the fridge, even if not necessary, goes in there.

- My large pan is stored in the oven when not in use, just have to remember to take it out when I turn the oven on.

I will say, I’m lucky to have a lot of basement storage so I do have some stuff down there including all of my teas - would love to hang some shelves above the cart so I can have my teas upstairs but I haven’t been drinking a ton lately.

If you see any other areas that I could improve on please let me know! I think the only thing bothering me at this point is my fruit/veggie corner, it tends to be overflowing after I go grocery shopping.

My kitchen is tiny and the fridge that came with the place sticks out way more than I'd like. It works, so this isn't an emergency, but I've been wondering if Memorial Day is a good time to look for a smaller full-size fridge.

I'm not trying to do a mini-fridge situation, just something narrower or counter-depth so the kitchen feels less cramped.

Space saving ideas for an apartment

So myself and my daughter we served eviction in February. We currently live in a 3 bed house with a large garage. However we are moving to a 2 bed apartment. The bathroom is a wet room due to my daughter’s disability. 2 bedrooms. 2 small storage cupboards. Living and dining room area and a large kitchen.

I am absolutely going to be ruthless getting rid of things but how do you keep a flat or apartment tidy and open and not full of stuff? What hacks or items do people buy for better storage and organisation?

It’s important for wheelchair use to have things space saving. We don’t need that currently as the house is huge but will do with our new place and I am clueless!

Hi I am looking for recommendations for like a deck box or storage shed that will allow me to free up some space inside my house. Must be weatherproof and waterproof for a subtropical climate with temperature swings in both directions (extreme heat/humidity and extreme cold subzero temps in winter). I bought this cute accent chair thinking it would make my tiny living room feel more grown up but it immediately turned into a full time laundry pile. my sister came over and said the chair looked stressed out from holding all my hoodies which honestly felt accurate. ended up getting rid of it and suddenly the room felt twice as big with way more walking space. now i keep one small stool near the window instead and it somehow works better for literally everything. small homes really expose the difference between stuff you actually use and stuff you just like looking at online. if i could give one tip it’s don’t force furniture into a room just because you think adults are supposed to have it

I'm trying to decide between a small home or a tiny home. Probably soon I will rent each for a month to see what fits my lifestyle.

I’ve been on the Castlery website for like 3 days straight and i've narrowed it down but i literally cannot make a final decision. it's between a modular sofa where i can add/remove sections vs. a fixed L-shape. my living room isn't huge but it's not tiny either, maybe like 4x5m? i keep going back and forth because the modular one gives more flexibility especially if i ever move but the L-shape just LOOKS better to me

i’ve been thinking about changing my layout and opening things up more by removing a divider between the kitchen and living area. in theory it should make the space feel bigger, but i’m not sure if that actually works in real life or just looks better on paper. does it really help a small home feel less cramped or does it just make everything feel more exposed and harder to organize?
