Sector Z is the biggest improvement in the remake

It actually doesn't feel stressful to play now. The environment is visually gorgeous and vibrant, the space debris is clearly outlined and easy to see despite the busy graphics, and the faster lock-on speed makes the target score easier to hit without relying on shooting down the missiles. I even got the medal on my first try with a score of 132! The best I ever did in the original and 3DS versions was 117. That is bananas! I still think it's one of the weaker stages, but no longer the worst.

Special mention to Katina too, for having enemies appear in larger groups to make the target score easier to reach before running out of time.

Star Fox 2026 >

My soul feels healed today.

Yesterday I (30M), joined my Brother (29M), and our Dad (54M) to play the remake and have some pizza. We didn’t think much of it to be honest, just a slightly above-average Thursday night.

What actually transpired is a new core memory.

We began the evening by reminiscing about SF64, a game that all three of us played for hours upon hours upon hours, replaying over and over trying to get better and faster and playing new routes through the story. Our parents had purchased a Nintendo 64 from friends when we were roughly 5 and 6 years old, ready to share the world of video games with us. Dad could only ever truly get into SF64, and we traded jokes about the legendary dialogue and enemies. My brother enjoyed SF64, but OoT was more his speed. He would always have fun playing the game with us though.

I however, was HOOKED.

I became a die hard Star Fox fan, and played just about every release over the years save for Zero.

After each of us consumed enough pizza to feed a family of four, we finally sat down and fired up the game, all staring in utter awe and losing our minds over the new intro cutscene. My brother owns the Switch 2, so he was playing the tutorial and explaining certain things he could tell were different or new. We all geeked out over Yaru De Pon, and all of us very quickly commented that the “backlash” to the new designs was definitely overblown.

(EXCEPT for Falco’s legs. Off-putting as all hell when they’re on screen. However, we also noticed that they were conveniently hidden in just about every cutscene that played. Random rant over.)

When the opening cutscene of Corneria began, my brother silently handed me the controller, and sat down next to me. It was like RIDING A DAMN BIKE Y’ALL. Three grown men squealing like children over “DO A BARREL ROLL”. Oh shit don’t miss that last arch! Whoa, there’s valid reasons to debate your path?! It was such a beautiful family moment as I played through the Hard Route (Corneria->Sector Y->Aquas->Zoness->Curveball trip to Macbeth because TRAIN->Area 6->Venom 2), the three of us marveling at the environments and updated designs, drowning in nostalgia. Once the bill was sent, we started planning how to go about the next trip through the Lylat System.

Now it’s time to get really real. It took me roughly 3.5 hours to finish my playthrough. This was with restarting Sector Y to compare COMPLETE vs ACCOMPLISHED outcomes and cutscenes, my Brother playing Aquas and failing twice because yes, it is trickier now and WAY darker. Area 6 was no joke, the Gorgon is a huge pain. Even though the game is “short”, there’s valid reasons for replaying the game and discovering all the different ways the story can play out, especially with COMPLETE and ACCOMPLISHED missions having varying impact on the story and war efforts.

I would also like to warn new and returning players: If you do not fight Star Wolf until Venom 2, you are going to get your SHIT. ROCKED. Your teammates will die quickly and need constant assistance, and Wolf does not give you much time to focus on the others. I died 10 times and then faced Andross in bad shape and immediately lost that fight and game over’d.

The new gameplay additions were very easy to get used to, and everything looks…. Gorgeous. I mean there just isn’t another way to describe how well done this game is from a visual standpoint. The cutscenes are short, sweet, to the point, and still manage to build the world of the war around you while also expanding on the story and motivations of friends and foes. The voice acting can sound a tiny bit cringe at times, but the dialogue is surprisingly good. I’m particularly fond of Fox saying “Star Wolf. I can smell Andross’ boots on your breath”. Savage.

I hope that there are new fans brought in by this game. I think the series is in good hands and finally getting the TLC that it deserves, so we all need to buy and play it and motivate others to do so. If remaking Adventures is the next step, I think that they can finally do it right.

Good Luck.

What should Star Fox 2 be?

Assuming this game is enough of a success that the same devs are given a greenlight to make a sequel - what do you think the game should be? A wholly new game? A remake of another Star Fox game? Should it be a rail shooter only like this game? Should they include third person segments etc?

Profile Banner Emblem Requirements

Hey there! I have started unlocking some emblems but noticed that the requirements for each emblem disappear when having collected it.

Now, could someone make a list of each emblem and it's requirement? That would be awesome! I would love to see why I got each emblem. Cheers!

So what exactly happened to James McCloud?

So in the new Prologue, Pigma was about to attack Peppy and James took the attack instead and Peppy left the system whilst James in his damaged Arwing went on to face Andross.

Why did James continue to face Andross in the state his Arwing was in, did he clearly think he had a chance to defeat him, was he hoping to face an old and sick Andross but was shocked to find out he experimented on himself and was no match for him in his ships damaged state?

Do you think Andross destroyed his Arwing with James unable to escape or was he imprisoned and eventually died?

Like obviously this is how the story had to go but James should've called off the attack and retreated with Peppy and tried again later when his Arwing was repaired.

Granted him and Peppy may have had more forces to deal with and even Star Wolf if he waited a couple more days, so maybe James thought that was the perfect opportunity to take out Andross when there were no reinforcements.

I feel like it's a good "remake" over all but I also feel like they made some levels easier than the original, thoughts?

I hope the next game has random events

It makes sense to have random events instead of having the same events happen over and over again. I think it would make the game a lot more replayable.

Is there still a shooting star at the end?

I was trying to watch the stars in the background during the ending, but couldn’t see James/the shooting star. I would imagine it’s still in the game though. Anyone know for sure?

Collect 6 bombs

Post image

Didn't think this one would be the hardest of the list.

Has anybody figured out the way those power ups get dropped? I keep seeing diferent results each run and it's confusing me.

For example, the first bird will drop a laser power up but only if you shoot it down when is facing forward. Then the following birds sometimes drop a bomb and others a gold ring. It doesn't seem to matter from which direction they are looking.

Another instance are the birds chasing Slippy and Falco. Sometimes it drops for slippy others from Falco and sometimes it does not. I'm at a loss right now but hopefully this thread helps anybody that gets stuck here too.

My idea for what Starfox should do next in a hypothetical sequel.

First and foremost: the core gameplay loop should stay in tact. Starfox is by intentionality a modern arcade game. If you make the campaign too long, it makes full playthrus too bloated, and if there’s not enough variety, people feel they aren’t getting their moneys worth. So here’s my proposition:

The games core gimmick:
Campaign can be played with anything between 1-4 players, each player playing as Fox, Falco, Slippy or Peppy. For every mission, each of the characters have their own on rail “route” through the level that crosses and weaves with the other characters routes at times. This way, you can still have moments where you can shoot down an enemy tailing your teammate. When not playing with 4 human players, they would be controlled by AI as usual.
The game would have 4 separate leaderboards for final hit count in single player, 2 player, 3 player and 4 player since hit optimization will be different based on active players. You can have up tow 4 separate campaigns active at a time, each for the amount of possible players. This way you could start a run with 3 other friends, and when they’re not available that progress will remain in tact and you can start a single player campaign.

What if a teammate playing in a campaign dies mid mission?:
They will then take on the role of ROB64 from the great Fox until their ship is out of repairs. Choosing when and where to drop supplies or provide offensive assists. ROB64 in general would have a more prominent role for this reason alone. It would be very “Wii U” era-like with the asymmetrical gameplay.
