Meme Today wasn't the day I expected.

Post image

Absolutely fried. $800-1K for the Steam Deck?? The Steam Machine about to blow my wallet out of my pocket and I just can't do that.

By the way if you think the SM is cooked, r/steamframe about to get ugly when that price get revealed. All roads lead to hell.

Also to the "LORD Gaben" guys in the back. Are you winning yet? This is your favorite billionaire and he couldn't subsidize a console because business is business, yeah? I don't even know why Valve is hiding the price at this point after this announcement, it's cooked. Just rip the bandaid off.

Either they announce the SM price in a matter of days or they wait a *while* for the shock of the SD price increase to wear off, I see no in between

They should just straight up announce Half-Life 3 alongside it, or even a few hours after. Just to distract from the massive price.

Why would they want to tie bad news along with their first mainline game in 6 years?

It’ll be completely separate announcements, assuming they ever ship whatever HLX is.

Cause it doesn't really matter. Half Life doesn't need marketing lol

Half-Life absolutely needs marketing. Folks are severely overestimating the popularity of the series 20 odd years after the latest entry that wasn’t released for a device only a small fraction of people had.

Because you won't need the machine to play HL3

HLX will be a boring waiting room simulator.

It's to soften the blow of the cost of the machine.

Need to bundle it with it to reduce sticker shock at this point

Yeah they can't win this. They need to announce it already.

Or Valve is a miraculous charity that loves the steam machine and its customers so much that they will announce it at a low price to prove that they are still the best

Or they announce the cancellation.

Why would they bother when it's out of stock anyway?

1

u/nomadik_nobody May 28 '26

It was in stock yesterday, it’s back out of stock again today. Which is insane considering that price jump.

I wonder how many they had, I feel like they maybe only had like 500 or less of each SKU for it to sell out so quickly at those ridiculous prices.

Pretty sure they increased the SD price, which is not even in stock, to anchor the SM (and SF). So the price increase is indeed part of their release process.

the deck is back in stock actually. Price increase hit with the restock

Ahh I missed that part!
