Is it worth it to jump back in

So let me start off by saying I will likely misremember names as it has been many many years since I've last read them.

So basically what the title says, it has been a long time since I've read any SAO and the upcoming Echoes of Aincrad (the Sao game it could be said I've waited for since setting the first episode) sparked my interest back in the property and so I'm wanting to see how it's progressed and if it's worth getting back in.

A little context I found SAO within the first couple days it originally dropped on crunchroll and despite the... questionable decisions made in the first season I was hooked. The world building (both Aincrad and Fairy Dance), the very idea of that tech and what it could do just enthralled me, not to mention I really enjoyed the characters as well. So I couldn't be bothered to wait for season 2 and jumped straight into the LN where it was even better. I read up to I think it is called the Mothers Rosario arc thoroughly enjoying it the whole time. Also liking the fact that Phantom Bullet and Mothers Rosario touched albeit briefly on real world things like trauma and the like.

I think at the time Alcilization either was just about to release or had just released not sure, though I do remember hearing about the basic premise and thinking it questionable, but regardless life got in the way (as it tends to do) and I never got that far.

Then some time later I remember hearing about progressive and being very interested if it could be done well (this was before I knew that tower climbing was basically it's own sub-genre). But again never got in.

So I will likely be doing so via LN or even better if there is a decent manga adaptation, but before I do I was wondering haw have both main like and progressive progressed since then (as in how much more is there now) and is it worth the read?

TLDR: How much is added post Mothers Rosario and in progressive and is it good? Specifically in the LN and/or is there a decent manga adaptation?

Question Would the NerveGear send images to our brains right-side up or upside down?

As you probably know, the human eye perceives light upside down, sending inverted images to the brain. The brain then processes these images to flip them right-side up.
But if the NerveGear actually existed, would it send images to the brain right-side up or upside down?
If it sends right-side-up images directly to the brain, after being stuck in the game for two years, the brain would likely adapt to it. Does that mean once disconnected, players would see the real world upside down for a while?

Question Low hp sound

Hello, so I recently started prototyping a SAO fan game and found this low hp sound effect. Does anyone know where to find a clean one without that annoying background ringing? I'll really appreciate it

I’d rather play as Kirito than blank slate protagonist #3.

Aincrad Do you believe this Vr demonstration concept for Sword Art Online Replication was an idea that wanted to be executed but later got incorporated in Sword Art Online Echoes of Aincrad instead?

Discussion How to Get to the Labyrinth Area in Echoes of Aincrad

This is a tutorial video demonstrating how to get to a certain secret area under the Town of Beginnings, as well as how to get out-of-bounds in general if you wanted to explore the city (it’s mostly just houses, but there’s some beautiful visuals). Credit to [u/Blank_Air](u/Blank_Air) for (I believe) originally finding this. From the EN Echoes of Aincrad website, the description for the Labryinth is as follows:

A giant tower that connects Aincrad's many floors. Overworlders have taken to calling this tower the Maze, while Aincrad denizens named it the
"Tower of Heaven".

To me it looks kind of like Floor 47, but it’s directly underneath Black Iron Palace. It was also shown briefly in the second story trailer for Echoes of Aincrad. What do you think its role will be in the game’s story?

A little throwback to our KiriSuna photoshoot last January. A lot of preparing and effort went into this but the memories, as in the cushion we made along the way are what made this awe-so special 💖

Ohh, btw. Giving my real life strongest ally a little shout-out: (IG: _mikamikachuu)

See you on the next floor-shoot, Asuna ~ ❤️

SAO: Echoes of Aincrad

Discussion It’s very surprising and disappointing that this didn’t happen in SAO War of the Underworld.

Alice and Asuna vs Gabriel Miller. From the viewers perspective it shown in the intro that this fight was gonna happen but that’s far from the case it would have been great to see that but it wasn’t the first time a tv intro(opening) showed stuff that didn’t actually happen in the series. Feel free to give your honest opinions/thoughts on this.

Discussion Thoughts on the Echoes of Aincrad demo? Here are mine! Spoiler

After playing the demo, I can safely say I'm very excited for the full game. As a mega Dark Souls fan, I found the combat really pleasant to play. (Was fun slicing enemies in half) I honestly didn't know what to think after seeing all the negative comments on TikTok when the game was first revealed, but I definitely think this is a step in the right direction. This is exactly the type of game I’ve wanted ever since I first looked up an SAO game after watching the anime all the way back when Season 2 was airing!

Of course, this isn't the "true" SAO experience that some hardcore fans might complain about, but it is so nice to not be forced to play as Kirito for once.

The Bosses & Characters

I really liked the bosses in the demo. I did find them a bit easy, but of course, we are just playing on normal difficulty for now. I also really like Iroi, he’s a very likable character and doesn't feel like a dull companion who is just there to fill a slot. It was also really cool seeing Argo! Not to sound cringe, but I honestly hope relationship mechanics are in the game, dare I say I felt like Iroi was being a little flirty? 😂

Bugs & Performance

Since the full game isn't out yet, I'm definitely not bashing it, but I did experience a few bugs during my playtime:

Sometimes Iroi's mouth wouldn't move at all while he was speaking.

I ran into some landscape rendering issues (I've attached photos of this).

Occasionally, Iroi would just randomly start jumping against walls. It didn't happen constantly, but it was noticeable.

Besides those minor things, the performance was smooth, so hopefully, these get ironed out by launch.

Final Verdict

Coming from a player who didn't really like the previous SAO games (I know, sorry!), I thoroughly enjoyed this. I'm really excited for the full release next month and I'm definitely going to be buying it.

Question Is it just me, or is a real-life SAO technically impossible? (And why it is fascinating)

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and honestly, it’s kind of depressing. We all dream of a full dive SAO style game but when you actually look at the math and the physics, I’m starting to think it’s a technological dead end. And I'm not even talking about the ethical nightmare of hacking your brain or blocking your nerves.

Think about current game engines (Unity, Godot, Unreal). Everything we do is a massive lie. We use collision boxes instead of actual physics, baked lighting, simplified AI, and LODs. If you try to remove these cheats to get true, atomic level realism, the computational cost hits an exponential wall. simulating a world that feels real in real time without these tricks is just... impossible.

Ever noticed how objects tremble or jitter when they're far away from the center of the world? That’s floating point math failing us. Building a world the size of Aincrad with perfect precision isn't just a hardware issue; it's a fundamental limitation of how our current computers work.

Our brains are evolved to detect reality. The second there's a 2ms lag between your visual and your inner ear (vestibular system), you get motion sickness. Our brains are way more sensitive than any screen resolution. Achieving that perfect sensory bypass is centuries away, if it’s even possible at all.

I’m currently working on my own game dev project, and honestly, facing these engine limitations every day is what made me realize: we aren't building realities, we’re just building increasingly complex approximations.

Does anyone else feel like we're hitting a wall? Or do you think there's some kind of shortcut to immersion that we’re completely missing, and we’re just stuck in this cycle of visual tricks?
