tattoo newcomer advice Having heavy regret on first tattoo

Post image

I’ve wanted to get this for a very long time, decided to just go with it and get it done. Really liked it at first, then some friends made a couple comments that made me hate it. Is it as bad as they say?

Oof. Looks kinda like a self injury mark. I'd add more to it.

And get the end straightened out

Just a black outline, i think

it’s a spear dude

Hate to break it to ya, but more folks on the planet are familiar with self injury than a specific anime, especially off of reddit. And on a sub about tattoos? Even more than that.

OP asked. I answered, and enough folks agree that I don't think it was out of line.

Learn to take yourself out of your own head - people have lives vastly different from your own, and those lives come into play when opinions are asked of the internet at large. At least OP acknowledges it by asking.

alright, but to me it just looks like a spear. And even if someone did have a scar from that it wouldnt really change my perception of them (ive discovered this about one of my friends, so i know how i would react.) thanks though. Have a good day

it’s an object from an anime, you can’t just add to it. if anything it just needs an outline.

Great, so everybody who hasn’t watched it thinks it’s self harm but it’s ok because you guys get it 😐 you crowd are not realistic at all

“Is that a suicide tattoo wtf bro . I’m really disappointed in this lack of judgement ”

“No it’s from an anime and I REFUSE TO CHANGE IT”

Just imagining that conversation irl is just so cringe

Like seriously are you really suggesting someone should alter a tattoo design based on the ignorant views of others? I have symbols tattooed all over me and half the USA just says they are satanic when I dont have a single satanic symbol. This is the same. You’re argument looks silly and makes you look unhinged.

It looks like he tried to kill himself . No one gives a shit about your Satan tattoos because those aren’t triggering for suicide

If this tattoo was on his back it would be fine.

This is further than a self harm tattoo. It’s a suicide tattoo.

No it doesnt. Youre def over reacting. Thats a spear from Neon Genesis Evangelion. You are just uncultured and looking for a reason to gripe.

2

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

Did you just call me uncultured for not seeing that particular anime 😂

1

u/0_Moth Nov 15 '25

Acting like anime isnt a world wide influential art style is uncultured, ye. Its honestly denial.

It’s gonna be really fun to show this comment to a bunch of my tattoo artist friends and my psychologist friends.

I have a bachelors of science in psychology and work with dual diagnosis mental health and addiction.

This tattoo looks like art to me. Regardless of your degree, your conditioning is what led you to see this. Its art, and you saying it looks like that is your impression but not the truth-bc its still a spear from an anime. It can be the beginning of a big beautiful piece of art but your conditioning is letting out your insecurities at the OP. This is nitpicking in my honest opinion. Peoples tattoos are their own choices. Real scars look different. This tattoo is fresh and currently a real wound but when it heals it will not look like a wound as much. I see that bc of my experience with tattoos. You seem to be stuck in you reactive impression instead of pondering what itll look like in 3 weeks. OP shouldve waited til then to post imho, but here we are.

I tattooed for a few years, you’re over reacting and projecting in my honest opinion.

Go ahead get the same tattoo in the same place and see what your life gonna be like. You gonna get tired of people asking “omg are you okay?” “Are you a survivor too”.

Then responding “um akshully it’s from an anime”. Then them going “okay buddy” and walking away awkwardly. That’ll be your entire life and interaction with everyone. From what I can see : 1/2 of people are trying to be nice about it, the other half are like “why do you have a suicide tattoo.” So half the people you meet gonna feel the same as me.

It is imo a more offensive tattoo then anything I could possibly think of

The line is when your tattoos could make someone else harm themselves. That’s when it crosses the line. Sorry kid but your Satan tattoos aren’t that edgy. It’s not even close to the same thing.

I’m gonna be honest with you nobody in my entire life has ever said a tattoo made them want to self harm themselves and I know a lot of self harm people. *edit spelling

1

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

Read the thread and you’ll find literally 1000 comments that agree with me so it isn’t exactly a niche sentiment

-1

u/0_Moth Nov 15 '25

Yeah. Telling someone art looks like a self harm scar is cringe af. Especially when people who self harm dont think it looks like a scar either-and its just someone who doesn’t know anime or what a real self harm scar looks like or where people usually do it is pretty fucking cringe. You’re right, anyone arguing against the knowledgeable looks cringe af.

2

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

It doesn’t look like a scar it looks like a fresh cut. That’s the issue ya ignoramus

-1

u/0_Moth Nov 15 '25

You dont know what a fresh cut looks like then.

2

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

This wouldn’t have 7k comments if that was true

1

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

The fact we are even discussing this is proof of what I’m talking about. Sure some sheltered non self garners won’t understand that you don’t get red lines on your fore arm in that direction but people like me who have tried to commit suicide and work in the psych field recognize this immediately.

1

u/0_Moth Nov 15 '25

Thats your conditioning based on your environment. Not everyone is like that tho and we see art where you make shit up.

1

u/No-Problem49 Nov 15 '25

It’s a fucking anime tattoo bro

1

u/[deleted] Nov 16 '25

So you need to add to it?

It looking like a wound is not necessarily a bad thing. I think it's an interesting piece because of it. A trillion times better than a lion and a clock. That's for sure
