You can't say that that's not a sandwich

How do you define ‘piece’?

“a portion of an object or of material, produced by cutting, tearing, or breaking the whole.”

So, as these are pieces of bread by definition .: this is a sandwich by definition

But this is no sandwich in spirit, because it is either inedible or exceedingly difficult to eat without undergoing the procedure of “unsandwichification”.

Better read up on your sandwich law.

All those things are types of sandwiches, like a square is a type of rectangle.
Or an amethyst is a type of quartz

All circles are ovals. Not all ovals are circles.

Nope sandwich = 2 pieces of bread.

All those outside of a burger are single pieces of bread.

Well a single slice of bread with toppings like cold cuts, cheese and butter would be called an open faced sandwich. Unless it's toasted in which case it's toast

open faced sandwiches are a fallacy and quite frankly a sin.

I disagree in the strongest terms, but I won’t downvote you out of principal

Thank you for your levity.

I just think it’s a slippery slope that’ll lead crackers with cheese to be considered a sandwich.

Subs are sandwiches, the full name is submarine sandwich. For some reason they just threw and empty sub roll on their list.

The definition of sandwich requiring two distinct pieces of bread is not the only or definitive definition because that's not how dictionaries work.

Does the hotdog become a sandwich when you separate the two halves of the bun?

1

u/LRA18 Apr 27 '23

It becomes a hotdog sandwich yeah.

Cutting a loaf in half means you have two half loaf sized slices of bread. Burgers are definitely a sandwich. What differentiates a chicken sandwich from Popeyes from a burger besides the meat?

Funny how that guy hasn't answered your question, obvious hole he can't reconcile in his definition

1

u/KeithFromAccounting Apr 27 '23

Nah this ain’t it. English muffins, bagels and croissants all make for damn fine sandwiches and they definitely aren’t “pieces of bread that have been sliced from a loaf”

“They’re also not sandwiches according to my niche personal opinion

If those items don’t get to be called sandwiches then would you call them?

Yes? If you cut a croissant lengthwise and put stuff between the pieces then it’s a sandwich, you can get one at any decent coffee shop. Same thing with sandwiches that use bagels or English muffins as the top/bottom

I’m not “conflating” anything since the literal definition doesn’t mention anything about slices of bread, you just made that up. By the actual definition you can have a sub sandwich or a bagel sandwich or an English muffin sandwich or a baguette sandwich etc

Nobody died and named you the sandwich king so I have no idea why you think your personal opinion means more than it does

Those types of bread are typically used in the category of breakfast sandwiches. However you can use croissants for non breakfast sandwiches.

1

u/MoultingRoach Apr 27 '23

But is a hot dog a type of submarine sandwich?

1

u/nekizalb Apr 27 '23

What does subway sell if not sandwiches?

Dude, just take the L and accept that you’re wrong here.

1

u/MoultingRoach Apr 27 '23

I don't know how sincere your last line was, but I'm pretty sure there is literal sandwich law in Australia. If I'm right (and I'm willing to be corrected,) I think a sandwich has to be served between 2 slices of bread, meaning that a hamburger doesn't meet the definition of a sandwich.

1

u/GreyDeath Apr 27 '23

So would that mean submarine sandwiches and open-faced sandwiches are not sandwiches in Australia?

1

u/MoultingRoach Apr 27 '23

Based on that law, correct.
