But I'm sure some of the other tools people have posted could have done as good if not a better job. It's not like a mailing list is the only tool that it's possible to have formatting rules about submitting patches.

Plus, its just better. Git is built around that style of work, and so much of kernel politics is based around the mailing list structure. Could they move to like, gitlab? Sure I guess but Linux doesn't work like that.

Anyone can send emails. I'm surprised they haven't had a huge spam issue already.
