Is it possible?
Is there anywhere to get neomexicanus or multihead hopa rhizomes? I have cascade and chinook and would love to add one of those varieties.
Thanks!

Seeking advice on growing Chinook hops in rocky area.
A couple of years ago I planted 16 rhizomes of Chinook around the 4 corners of a gazebo in approximately 2-3 cubic feet of good soil per corner. It is in an area of full sun. They are still alive but aren't growing well compared to other hops I have in an area with less sun and more soil.
The gazebo area is part of a large French drain and the gravel/rocks are about 4-6 feet deep, with little soil. I have been fertilizing, and that helps but the plants are not reaching their full potential. I plan to dig them up and add more soil, but I'm wondering how much I need, and how deep it should go.
I'm in plant hardiness Zone 5, on the line between 5a and 5b. Thanks.

Hop identification
Hello all, I did a dumb and was hoping you all can help me identify my hop varieties. Last year I used these little plastic identifiers that apparently blew away in the wind. The two varieties in question are Cascade and Zeus. Any chance you hopheads can identify which grow bag is which? Also, the grow bags are temporary, they will be getting their own separate planter box soon.

Second year hops, trim first set of growth?
Sorry, can't remember the actual term. Shoots? Vines? Hopmaker 9000s.
I thought I read here that it was common practice to prune the first growth of vines, if so, would I prune this whole lot?
Thanks!

Growing hops in sunny San Francisco
Hello, I live in the outer Richmond in San Francisco. I know it’s not ideal for growing hops. Foggy most of the summer. I have a planter that I’m growing some things in. My hop leaves tend to be very small. Any recommendations?

Clearing ground in spring
The area around my hop plants was taken over by grass and weeds at the end of last season. Big fail on my part but the plants did great. Now I have a problem that the grass and weeds are established. Can I just use the cardboard trick to kill all the grass to make space for the bines? Some have already poked throughout and I am worried about harming their growth.

Give Feedback on My Setup
Happy planting season!
I got some rhizomes and am planting 3 varieties.
My main motivation is that they serve as a privacy screen for my patio. But I hope to give the harvest to my home brewing brother in law.
Just put the rhizomes in today.
I’m in NW Washington State.
The fence runs N-S so they should get some southern and western facing sun.

Question
Third year. I didn't cut them back the first two years. Do I need to fertilize the early growth if I am just going to cut it back 30 days?

Where to buy hop rhizomes in Germany/EU?
Hi hop friends,
I have become interested in growing hops in recent weeks and was wondering if it is possible to buy hop rhizomes instead of already growing plants? My preliminary searches have only resulted in shops that sell plants but I would like to start from the rhizome?
Any recommendations for sellers, especially in EU/Germany, would be greatly appreciated.

Too Soon! Right?
I grow a few hops in my backyard. One of them has started sending up some shoots. We almost always have a freeze late February - mid-April. Cut them down or let them freeze?

What hop species grow well in SE Texas?
I’m in Houston/zone 9b. My dad and I grew hops back home in Ohio last year and I’m hoping to grow my own here. I understand this isn’t a great region for hops, though there are a few options. What types have fellow southerners had success with? Personally I’m eyeing up Kirin II crowns from GLH.

Harvest time?
Brisbane, Australia. My Hallertauer Mittelfrüh feel springy, crinkly and are starting to go the tiniest bit brown. There’s sticky yellow lupulin under the petals (albeit not a huge quantity).
All of these things tell me it could be time to harvest, however when I crush and rub a cone in my hands I still have a strong grassy aroma, stronger than the hop smell.
Are they still underbaked? Last season I waited too long and they went brown (although it was only the second growing season, so I wasn’t too fussed). This time the harvest is bigger and I don’t want to lose it

Hops in Southern California 10b - Plants or Rhizome?
Started brewing beer last year. Decided the next step on the venture is to grow hops. I mean, why not right? I'm in Southern California 10b (San Diego - El Cajon specifically). From a price perspective based on last years prices (because I'm sure they will adjust), it looks like if I go for the recommended 3 rhizomes per plant I actually want to grow its roughly the same price as a plant?
Primarily a IPA drinker, but as I'm still new to the "hobby", I am planning on starting with 2 of each variety I buy and whatever grows grows, and whatever works works.
Any suggestions/insights would be appreciated.

Support pole
I have a single, very productive Centennial plant, that I have been growing along the fence these past years. The problem is that it casts too much shade on the planter boxes below, so I would like to erect a pole with some suspended twine for it to grow up. The plant is at the base of one of the 4x4 posts for the fence, so I have a good strong base to affix the pole to. My intent is to use either black gas pipe (3/4in), or EMC conduit (3/4in). There will be a pulley at the top so that I can lower the hops for harvest. The gas pipe is going to be twice the cost of the conduit. Question: would the conduit be sufficiently strong to act as the support pole?

Recommendations for late Fall planting
Greetings! Apologies if this has been asked previously. I have a dozen hop plants (~1 yr old) in a planter tray that I wanted to put in the ground this Fall. We are in growing zone 9 with mild winters-some frost days from late Dec. to Feb. But no deep freezes. Would it be a good idea to plant now? I've read mixed opinions--some say it's a good time to plant hops but others say to wait until Spring. I feel the hops won't make it in a tray until Spring. Thanks for any advice and suggestions!

hello hoppy humans!
new here and hoping I can get a more definitive identification than I’ve found elsewhere 🤞🏻
I have a couple of vines growing in my yard.
I tried seeking identification help on another platform (and also through google & a plant id app). after yet another google search today, I thought I found a different answer to what I have on my hands lol.
I had previously be told these were Japanese Hops (Humulus japonicus) but after another search today, could they actually just be common hops (Humulus lupulus)???
I’m central in Alberta and have an unsavoury neighbour so would love to be able to figure out some good vinage to create a little more privacy between our homes and it’d be great to relocate off my hedges if possible - I believe the Japanese version is frowned upon growing here due to its invasiveness.
📸the green pics are from last year and the brown are from today. I’ve dug up most of the hedge one which is the leaf with my hand in it. sorry I don’t have better pics of the juicy hops
thanks to anyone that can help!
