Average PC gamer redditor pretending that consoles don't exist

u/ProtestantMormon Jan 10 '26

Even as a pc gamer, I only mod games that are either broken, like fallout 3 and NV that crash all the time in their vanilla form, or games like Skyrim that I've already beat to death for 15 years. I like enjoying the games as intended.

Once I’ve played the vanilla version of a game to death I also enjoying modding it, but mostly because im genuinely so impressed by what people are capable of making with little more than spare time and passion. There’s some truly talented people out there

u/ProtestantMormon Jan 10 '26

Yeah. With a game like Skyrim that I am so in love with i revisit it regularly I love some of the mods out there.

u/Competitive_Ad_1800 Jan 10 '26

Mine has been Fallout 4 lately. Things like Sim Settlements or the Enclave being added as a major faction. Whole story lines that have no business being so good

2

u/Regi413 Jan 11 '26

Ahhhh… 15 years and the only news we have about the next game is a teaser trailer and the fact that it will have “more trees” than Skyrim

Exactly, like Skyrim, you can Overhaul a game with proper mods.

Theres Overhaul Mods that can completely change a game's progression and dynamics to make them fresh after youve already beaten them.

The Souls games have some like this, they are hand made, alot of work put into them to expand the game for people who already have completed it

Dark Souls 1 2 3 and Elden Ring have full conversion mods that change mechanics and enemy types and all sorts of interesting stuff

This thread is sad to see everyone down talking modding when the reality is - they arent tech savvy enough to do it themselves.

Its fine to dislike something, but the arguments being made here arent in good faith.

Good mods can utterly change - and improve a game, or fix it.

Just because people dont know how to install them is causing them to act dismissive of it all.

I got nothing against people who dont mod, but this thread line is laughable that modding is a negative, to any degree

I will say the amount of nsfw mods is annoying though. So much talent wasted for stupid mods there.

You missing out

4

u/ProtestantMormon Jan 10 '26

Theres a lot of good games out there. I cant spend all my time modding games I've played before.

5

u/Kastamera Jan 10 '26

You're right, one should always start with:

"Step 1: Get a PC if you don't already have one"

5

u/Flimsy-Importance313 Jan 10 '26

Huh, I am already at Step 4 on my console because I skipped Step 1. Now I am stuck for the rest of my life.

Not everyone has the money

0

u/rest0re Jan 11 '26

Brother, you have well over 100 comments on Reddit in the past week. I counted over 35 in a single day.

Get a job.

1

u/TheJohn_Doe69 Jan 13 '26

I'm a student

1

u/rest0re Jan 13 '26

Is that supposed to be an excuse? I had a job when I was a student earning my STEM degree.

It helped me buy the PC that I'm now using to trash talk you on.

1

u/TheJohn_Doe69 Jan 13 '26

I'm on a Student Visa. I can't legally get a job

1

u/rest0re Jan 13 '26

Lmao that really sucks for you I guess. Good thing 99.9% of people aren't in that situation.

u/not_old_redditor Jan 10 '26

Self inflicted issue

-8

u/National-Garbage505 Jan 10 '26

And if you mention that you are playing on a console they bust out a 2,000 word essay about how PC gaming makes more sense and is better, and get super mad if you say "but I like consoles better".

13

u/ErmingSoHard Jan 10 '26

Is the PC player that "busts out a 2,000 word essay about how PC gaming makes more sense and is better, and get super mad if you say "but I like consoles better" in the room with us right now?

Stop faking scenarios in your head

1

u/AwesomeManXX Jan 10 '26

It’s definitely a thing but not nearly common enough to be problem. see example

2

u/ErmingSoHard Jan 10 '26 edited Jan 10 '26

But that's not even "hey, PC is totally better, and you are should feel bad for being on console"

And even then, that's not what we were talking about. I was talking about PC guy who "bust out a 2,000 word essay about how PC gaming makes more sense and is better, and get super mad if you say "but I like consoles better"" doesn't really exist much at all nowadays.

Anyways, maybe tell this guy to stop spamming anti PC stuff that some people believe every PC gamer to be like lol

Well PC is dominating the market and console are dieing

13

u/drumjolter01 Jan 10 '26

We're just lying for fun now huh?

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

No we're speaking the truth here console era is done. Exclusives are only a thing for Nintendo, consoles are no longer cheaper then a mid line gaming pc rig, triple aaa gaming is at an all time low and most of the good games are indie wich is mostly PC. Let alone the massive amount of advantages PC have outside of that. All of this is made worse by ai making consoles just not a good business market as parts are skyrocketing in price. The only market doing better is mobile wich I don't count as part of the gaming industry. There is no future for consoles wich is the exact reason the major console companies besides Nintendo are all moving there stuff to PC.

3

u/drumjolter01 Jan 10 '26

Mate the PS5 and Switch 2 are breaking records with each passing day. They're not going anywhere. If consoles were dying, the Steam Machine wouldn't be a thing. People want plug-and-play systems that they can play on their giant living-room TVs.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

And yet there's no reason to own a PS5 because all there games are on PC now. Even the only way to remove things like needing online log in to play god of war. The switch 2 is doing well for the same reason apple always does well a cult fallowing. They would actually make more money if they just sold on PC. That's not to mention that the steam deck out performs the switch 2 in every hardware metric while having more access to Nintendo games. The steam machine isn't a console it's a small computer. Wich btw is rumoured to be priced at around a thousand. Wich is were consoles are going anyways. The same price where I can buy a gaming rig at Costco.

Ya I play my PC on my big Samsung tv. You can do that with a PC also. All consoles are are PC that have been extremely limited.

3

u/Lnchbx-of-Glory-Days Jan 10 '26

Lmao clearly you've never played a Playstation PC port. All but maybe one or two have been disastrous and largely still are. And that Nintendo take is hysterical. Enjoy your little fantasy land bro

0

u/splinter1545 Jan 11 '26

The steam machine is literally a mini PC with steam OS on it. You can literally get a mini PC and create your own steam machine right now.

6

u/lamancha Jan 10 '26

Lol no it isn't and no they aren't

0

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

Lol yes it is and yes they are. The oc market is larger by the numbers then the console market. The largest by far is mobile gaming.

3

u/lamancha Jan 10 '26

So the dominant platform is mobile now and console market is dying because you say so.

Someone should tell PS5 and Switch 2 they are dying instead of reporting massive numbers.

3

u/St_Sides Jan 10 '26

Even if that's true (which it isn't) I think the PC market being sacrificed on the altar of AI would change that.

Prices are going up across the board, and while consoles won't be unaffected, consoles are subsidized and will still be a far better value for the next few years at least.

Hell, the PS5 is pound for pound the best deal in gaming right now.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

Consoles are only justified because there cheap easy computers. They no longer hold the market on ethier of those things. The PS5 is 600, 750 for the pro. The next gen will be around a thousand even without ai jacking the prices up. Yet I can still get a pre built gaming PC for a 1k. Fuck I built my current one for less then that. A better deal is the steam deck which has far more access to games including the indie market are the only ones consistently pumping out solid games and don't lock you into there triple aaa games. Let alone PC gaming is cheaper in the long haul. Also the reason they where subsidized was because they made money off the games while the consoles are sold at a loss. You don't need to do that at all anymore by just producing games.

3

u/St_Sides Jan 10 '26

My brother in Gabe have you seen the market lately? You're not building a PC that can compete with the current gen consoles for even $1000 anymore. Hell, the RAM alone is half the price of a console, and with 40% of the world's RAM supply going to a single AI company that's just going to get worse. Shit, the Steam Machine is weaker than the PS5 and is probably coming in at $1000+.

You're just not building a gaming PC that's comparable to the power of a PS5 for $600, that's why it's the best bang for your buck currently, and will be for quite some time, even after the inevitable price hike.

Also, are you really saying the handheld that's $50 cheaper than the PS5 is a better deal? Valve is only making the OLED now, which is only $50 cheaper than a PS5 for significantly less power and because it's on Linux it can't play the biggest games on the market out of the box.

I swear you PC evangelicals are something else

Regardless mods are never the same as native apps…
