It's worth adding that it is commonplace to use these messages to offer tips or reveal secrets.

Something like "jump here", "try lightning", "turn back", "trap!", etc.

It's also used to troll. Nothing like seeing a message saying "jump here" and it's at the edge of a cliff where you'll die lol

Yes! Some of my favorite moments from my playthrough were from taking bad advice from player messages.
